Damien was staying outside the room, standing still, not hearing a word of the conversation that the two women were having.
For some reason I feel guilty, thought Damien. But I have nothing to feel guilty for, do I?
"Okay Klaus," said the Supreme Priest. "You can come in."
Damien nodded his head and entered the room.
He then saw Romelia sitting on the chair. Her eyes were closed and her face had hints of dried tears.
"What happened?"
"It's none of your concern. She is taking a nap. Let her rest."
Damien, who was confused, decided to take her advice and let the princess rest.
"Alright then Klaus," she said with amusement in her voice. "Looking at you, you are not very fond of Romelia, are you?"
"I beg your pardon-"
"You can be honest here. She is taking a deep nap at the moment. She needs the rest. She won't be able to hear you at all. So, you can be honest with me. Are you or are you not fond of her?"
"I-"
I should be able to answer this question honestly and without any second thoughts, thought Damien. But why am I not able to answer it.
The Supreme Priest chuckled at the man sitting before her.
"Are you not sure, Klaus?"
"Why does it matter anyway? Sometimes we have to work with people that we dislike."
"Alright. Why do you dislike her?"
"She is the reason why my father died!"
Both of us know that it's not true, thought the Supreme Priest.
"Okay. So, did you dislike her before her duel with your father?"
"I did not really care about her," replied Damien.
"Hm... Is that so?" she asked. "Ask yourself that question again and then answer me. Correctly."
"Like I said," Damien replied angrily. "I didn't care about her at all before she-"
The Supreme Priest then snapped her fingers close to Damien's ears.
No way, Damien thought. She did not-
"DAMIEN!" said a red eyed young girl with rage. "DID YOU EAT MY SHARE OF PIE TOO?"
"...No..." a boy with red eyes replied while wiping off the crumbs on his face.
"You did you son of a-"
"We had the same mother," Damien interrupted.
"No we didn't," replied the girl. "Because you are adopted."
"If that's the case," Damien said. "It makes the fact that father prefers me over you more painful, don't you think?"
"Oh please," Christa replied. "The only reason why father spends more time with you is because you decided to continue our family's 'legacy' by becoming a knight. If you had decided to become a farmer instead, he would've been just as distant with you as he is with me."
"You did decide to become a maid to the fake princess instead Sister," Damien said. "You were doing so well with training too. You would've been an excellent knight."
"Damien," Christa whispered. "I may not have trained with father for the past five months, but I can assure you that I can still win in a duel against you."
