Meredith had no idea how long she had been sitting on the roof but she was starting to get cold and felt cramped from sitting in that position. She heard her phone ringing once more and finally took a look at it

Derek

"Derek, what's wrong?" Meredith asked

"Meredith, what the hell happened?" He sounded shocked, he must have heard what happened

"Where are you and Ellis?" Meredith asked, ignoring his question

"We're still at the playground but Bailey's been calling me-" Derek was talking but Meredith interrupted him

"Okay" She said and hung up. She walked back inside the hospital and took the elevator, she got dressed and escaped the hospital despite several people trying to stop her so they could ask what was going on

Meredith walked towards the playground where she saw Derek and their daughter building a sandcastle. She once again made sure Ellis wouldn't notice that she had been crying before walking towards them

"Hey Ellie, did you have fun?" Meredith asked quietly

"Yes" The girl giggled

"Let's go home" Meredith reached her hand out for Ellis

"But mommy, can't we stay a bit longer? Please?" Ellis asked but Meredith shook her head

"What the hell is going on?" Derek quietly asked her head as Ellis went to put on her shoes again

"Nothing. I was just feeling sick. I'm taking her home, do you wanna call her tonight?" Meredith asked

"Can I come over instead? Just wanna spend some time with her" Derek used it as an excuse to make sure Meredith would be okay

"Okay" Meredith mumbled and grabbed Ellis' hand "Say bye bye daddy!" Meredith forced a smile for her daughter

"Bye!" Ellis waved at Derek and quickly followed her mom to the car

Once they sat down in the car Meredith's phone started ringing again. It was Bailey so she ignored the call and drove home where she got a snack ready for Ellis and finally decided to call Bailey

"Mommy's gonna call for a minute, if you need me I'm in the garden" Meredith told Ellis so she'd know where her mom was

"Kay" Ellis smiled and ate the pieces of apple as she was drawing a picture

"Grey, finally!" Miranda picked up "What the hell happened in that OR?" She frowned

"I felt sick. I couldn't be in that OR" Meredith quietly replied

"Meredith, what's going on?" Bailey asked again

"Nothing, I'm fine, I just felt sick" Meredith quietly explained "I'll have to take the rest of the week off as well"

"Meredith-" Bailey's voice was full of concern

"Bailey, I'm just not entirely recovered after I had gotten the flu." Meredith said sternly

"Okay. You can always call me. Always" Bailey reminded Meredith

"Thank you. I have to go now, Ellis is yelling for me" Meredith quickly said even if it was a lie

"Bye Meredith" She heard Bailey say and hung up the phone

Meredith sat down, her knees pulled up against her chest as she focussed on her breathing, she didn't wanna start crying again

Time went by before she stood up again and made her way inside the house

"Hi munchkin" Meredith smiled "Are you doing okay?"

"Yes mommy. Look!" Ellis showed the picture she drew "That's us" She giggled "And daddy's in the house next to us. It would be so easy to live close" Ellis smiled

"Well daddy lived close but now you and daddy live in the woods, isn't that super cool?" Meredith asked with a smile

"It is!" Ellis smiled "Can't you live next to daddy?" She sighed

"Maybe we should put the picture on the fridge, what do you think?" Meredith tried to change the subject

"Yes!" Ellis smiled and ran to the fridge

"Honey, do you want a glass of juice or something else?" Meredith asked as she placed two magnets on the drawing to secure it

"Yes!! Apple juice!!" Ellis gasped

Meredith chuckled and took some apple juice out of the fridge and placed it on the table. She reached for the straw but felt her fingers going numb again, causing it to fall out of her hands onto the table

"Ellis- Can you- Will you be fine?" She asked her daughter, hiding her hands behind her

"Yes mommy" Ellis smiled and put the straw in

Meredith was staring at how Ellis had done it, not understanding why her own fingers refused to do what she wanted.

"I'm gonna go rest a bit on the couch, honey. Come get me if something's up" Meredith quietly said and almost ran towards the couch where she buried herself in her blanket and had to stop herself from crying as she didn't want her daughter to worry

Ellis was sipping her apple juice and enjoyed every sip. When the little girl finished her drink she threw it in the trashcan and walked back into the living room. She looked at her mother who must have fallen asleep

Ellis saw a single tear escaping her mommy's eye and quickly wiped it away. The girl wanted to stay close to her mother, just in case. So she decided to color another picture when about half an hour later she got disturbed by the doorbell ringing. She looked at her mom but no sign she was waking up. She then heard keys and the door that opened a bit later, revealing Derek

"Daddy, shh! Mommy's sleeping" Ellis whispered

"Has mommy been asleep the whole time?" Derek frowned as he quickly took off his jacket once he had locked the door again

"No. I drew her a picture and then i had some juice but then mommy went to the couch and fell asleep, so I drew another picture" Ellis widely smiled "I can show it to mommy when she's awake" Ellis giggled

"Why don't we finish this drawing and then you and I can make some dinner?" Derek suggests and his daughter immediately gave in

"But we need to be quiet for mommy!" Ellis said sternly
