Meredith was laying down on the examination table. Alex had been paged away to an emergency surgery and had promised to return as fast as possible, so Meredith was now completely on her own, no one around to support her until Bailey walked through those doors

"Meredith, sweetie?" Bailey asked as she saw the blonde laying down on the table

"Bailey?" She looked up

"Hey, I'm gonna sit with you, is that okay?"

"Hmm.." Meredith softly nodded and felt Bailey grabbed her hand in her own

"It will be okay" Bailey rubbed Meredith's arm softly

"Okay Grey, I'm gonna start the procedure" Tom announced but Meredith winced and moved her body as she felt his hands on her back

"Hey sweetie, you need to lay still, very still" Bailey rubbed Meredith's arm "It will be over soon" Bailey said and Tom tried again

"Aww" Meredith winced as Tom performed the spinal tap

"Shh, it's okay. It's okay" Bailey brushed her fingers through Meredith's hair

"It hurts.. It hurts so bad" Meredith whimpered in Bailey's arms

"I'm almost done, Meredith" Tom sadly smiled at Meredith

Bailey was sitting next to Meredith and held the blonde woman's hand as she was asleep. They had to give her some heavy meds after the painful procedure

"How is she?" Alex ran inside

"Shh!" Bailey signed that she was asleep "She was a trooper. I texted Derek but I haven't been able to call him yet, I didn't wanna leave her alone" Bailey explained

"Thank you for staying with her" Alex whispered and brushed his hand over Meredith's head

"I'll go call Derek. Stay with her, I'm giving you the time off" Bailey rubbed Alex' back and walked to her own office to call Derek

"Bailey! How is she?" Derek's voice was heard

"She's asleep now, Alex is with her" Bailey sighed "She was in a lot of pain"

"Oh Mer.. When will you know the results?" Derek quietly asked

"We hope as soon as possible.." Bailey sighed

"I'm coming over" Derek stated and hung up the phone

Meredith woke up and felt someone lay next to her. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Ellis

"Huh?" She looked up as she couldn't understand what her daughter was doing here

"Shh. It's okay" Derek assured her "I didn't wanna leave you alone" He smiled softly

Meredith nodded but kept quiet. She kissed her daughter's cheek and took a deep breath. She couldn't clearly think as she felt her arms getting even weaker but she couldn't find her voice to alert them and instead she felt a tear slipping down her cheek

"It will be okay" Derek must have seen she couldn't keep her tears at bay as he wiped them away and brushed his hand over her collarbone

"I- I-" Meredith was completely lost

"Shh, Mer" Alex whispered and saw how his friend buried her head into her daughter's hair

"Mama?" Ellis started shifting

"Shh" Meredith whispered and kept her weak arms wrapped around her daughter

"Meredith?" They heard Tom's voice

"Yeah?" She quietly whispered. She saw something bad was up

"It's guillain barre syndrome, we need to start you on intravenous immunoglobulin and tomorrow we'll start with plasmapheresis treatment. As you know guillain barre syndrome is the same acute inflammatoire demyeliniserende polyradiculoneuropathy, your nerves are attacked by its own body due to an unknown reason" Tom explained and Alex carried the little girl outside the room as Meredith looked at him with huge eyes

"W-Wait-" Meredith had no idea what was happening

"You're sure?" Derek asked Tom

"Sadly I am" He nodded his head "We need to start your treatment now, Meredith" He said and hooked her up to an IV "A physical therapist will stop by three times a day to make sure your muscles will stay used and we'll check your sensation a few times a day" Tom explained

"A few times a day?" Meredith panicked

"You'll be admitted for a while, Meredith. Is there anything else I should know for now?" Tom asked with an apolitical smile

"My arms- They have gotten weaker" Meredith quietly admitted and watched as Tom started her IV

"Okay, it's starting now and I'm gonna send a physical therapist right away" Tom said and left the room

"Meredith?" Derek said as she stared right ahead "Mer?"

"Hmm?" Meredith weakly turned her head

"I'm sorry. You know.. I'll come over with Ellis as much as you want. I'll be here as a friend so if you need something- Just let me know, I'll do everything" Derek held her weak hand in his "Meredith, I-" He started but they got disturbed by Alex and Ellis walking back inside

"Mama!" Ellis smiled and climbed up the bed, Derek helping her a little so she wouldn't hurt her mom

"Hey baby" Meredith breathed and kissed Ellis' head weakly

"You two should get some rest before your physical therapist is here" Derek brushed some hairs out of Ellis' face and waited until both girls drifted off to sleep

"I heard about it" They recognised Miranda's voice and they slowly turned around "Poor thing" She muttered as she walked closer to the bed and tucked both girls in

"They started her on meds.. Let's hope it doesn't get any more severe" Derek quietly explained

"Fuck" Alex muttered and hit the wall

"Karev- That won't help her" Bailey sighed

"I'm gonna grab some coffee" He stomped out of the room, he couldn't bear to see his best friend like this. It hurt him a lot

"Bailey.." Derek sighed

"I know, Derek.. She doesn't deserve this" Bailey sighed

"I feel like an ass. I just wanna stay around her and I want her in my arms, but I know I lost that right a while ago" He quietly muttered as his fingers stroke over Meredith's cheek
