It's been 10 years since you last lived in Hawkins. Your parents had to move away for work but now you're 17, you've decided to move back and live with your uncle, Jim Hopper, and his daughter.

Your first day at Hawkins High has been interesting so far, to say the least. Making new friends has never been easy for you but you managed to make a couple, the likes of Robin Buckley and Steve Harrington. However, the school douchebag, Jason Carver, has already seemed to make it his mission to make your time here hell.

That's why you found yourself escaping him (and by extension your two new friends) and coming out here, into the woods, so you could have some time to yourself, have some peace.

Or so you thought.

As you approach a bench, you see a figure materialise from behind a tree. He spots you and raises a questioning eyebrow.

"Sorry," you say, already retreating. "I didn't know anyone was going to be out here. I can go."
You take a few more steps backwards before spinning on your heel to walk away fully.
"Wait!" The boy calls.
You slowly turn back to face him.
"You can stay, I don't mind. I promise you I won't annoy you... much." He gives you a lopsided smile, tilting his head to the side.

"Okay." Shrugging, you make your way back over and sit on the table of the bench, your feet resting on the seat on his side.
You watch him as he leans against a tree, crossing his arms. There's something familiar about him, something that makes you feel instantly comfortable even though you're sure you don't know him.
"I don't think I've seen you before. Do you go to Hawkins High?" You ask him.

He tilts his head to the side once more, his gaze moving around your face, almost as if he's trying to figure you out.
"Yeah I do. I'm Eddie Munson," he finally says.
You nod.
"Well, nice to meet you Eddie. I'm-"
"Y/N Y/L/N." Eddie interrupts you.

Furrowing your eyebrows, you throw him a questioning look. "How do you know my name?"
Eddie grins and shakes his head, pushing himself away from the tree, rotating so his back is to you.
"Have I met you before?" You ask, considering he didn't answer your previous question.

Suddenly, he pivots back to face you, crossing his arms as he goes. "You don't remember me?" Eddie counters your question with his own. You would've thought he was annoyed if it wasn't for the huge smile settled on his face, it was like the idea of you not remembering him was entertaining to him.

"Should I remember you?" You smirk, resulting in a gasp from Eddie.
"Wow! I'm hurt. You really don't remember?"
Shaking your head as a response, you shrug.
"You were in 2nd grade. I was in 3rd. We used to hide out in the library together every lunch." He continues.

Something clicks in your brain and your face lights up in recognition. "That was you?" You exclaim, clapping a hand to your mouth.
Eddie laughs, nodding his head. "That was me."
"You look so...different."
"Well, 10 years of growing up will do that to you." He grins, happy you finally remembered him. "Although, you look exactly the same, so maybe you're an exception."
Pretending to hold your heart in agony, you reply. "Ouch. Now I'm hurt, Munson."

Stepping closer to you, he gives you a sad smile. "Y'know I was devastated when I came back after summer and you were no longer there. Little 4th grader me experienced his first heartbreak."
Your heart pangs a little at the thought of the young boy sitting waiting for you in the library, the hurt he felt when you never showed up.
At the same time, your stomach flips in slight excitement thinking about how you made an impact all those years ago on this attractive boy standing in front of you now.

"I'm sorry Eddie, my parents dragged me across the country for their work. I didn't want to leave."
Giving you an exaggerated grimace, he swipes away a fake tear. "It's okay, I survived." He chuckles.

Not breaking eye contact, he continues to step closer until he places his hands on either side of you, leaning in close.
"All those times we sat in the library together, I used to think you were the one for me Y/N." Eddie whispers, his eyes twinkling.
You whisper back, your heartbeat quickening. "Used to?"
He chuckles. "Maybe there's still some truth to what little me thought." His eyes flick down to your lips before returning their gaze to meet yours.
"Maybe?" You repeat. "I think I can work with that."
He smiles. "I think you can too."
