As traditional within Italian families, especially Mafia-involved families, my wife and I had quite a bit of kids. The reason being is that mafias with more close-knit followers, more loyalties and more connections are stronger than mafias whose entire follower base is composed of power-hungry strangers and those who only join out of desperation or because they owe a life debt.
It's also rewarding. Being there for every step of your child's development and being there for them when they achieve something they set their mind to.
Add on the community that they're born into given that every generation is larger than the last. Our kids and my brother's kids have their grandparents, 3 uncles and aunts plus more than 15 cousin that they grow up with.
This is our family.
