Heart to Heart
Annie knew what she had to do. It wasn't fair to keep Bart hanging.
She'd thought long and hard and now it was time to lay out all her cards.
She went into Bart's room and opened the door, perching on the edge of
his desk as she'd done so many times before.

"Bart...I need to talk to you. I haven't been forthcoming."
She reached out to take Bart's hands, entwining their fingers.
She squared her shoulders and took a deep breath.
"I've loved too many men and I really don't want this to end.
But Bart..."
Her eyes filled with tears.

"The Denver family does not have my heart.
If it were only you, and only me, I think we could be happy.
But if I stay here on the Liberty Belle,
I will end up losing myself.
You and your family are making their way,
But I feel like every day, you all get farther away
From BG, and from me."
She sniffed and squeezed his hands.

"I know you want commitment and I've given you that.
But let me tell you something.
My story is with the people of BG.
Not with the Denvers. Not with the river. Not with the marshes.

Her cheeks were flushed, her ultimatum given.
But she was doing the right thing.
