Scarlett's pov:
~Sofí come on, time for school~ I say out loud.

Sofía is very close to finishing sixth grade. In a normal in-person school she would still have half a year of school, but since she is online she can easily get ahead on her work; and her loving school, she only has four assigments and three projects left to finish. After that she is free for a couple of months before we decide if she wants to continue online or if she wants to try normal school again. But that's a coversation for annother time.

I hear Sofía's steps rushing downstairs followed up by four little paws, Pancake. Both of them almost crashing into the sofa, as usual.
Sofía grabs her water bottle and fills it up, that way when she fills like getting distracted she takes a sip of it and it somehow helps her focus.
She then goes to sit in front of the laptop and starts doing whatever math homework she has to do.

I have some emails and office work to do, so I sit next to her, making sure I have full eyesight of the sleeping Rose in front of us.

~Can I go to the shelter today?~ my daugter asks after an hour of full silence, with the exception of our keyboards and pencils.
~Mmm... maybe. I have a work call at one, but maybe after lunch you can spend an hour there before going to the gym. Sounds good?~ I ask. She nods and goes back to paying attention to her work.

About two week before christmas, Sofía heard about a fundraising event at the local shelter. She asked to go and so we did. Ever since that day, she has been going to volunteer every time she has the opportunity to. She obviously can't do much since she is just 11, but she goes there and plays with the dogs and cats and sometimes she helps feeding them as well. Today will be the third day this week, and I wouldn't be shocked if she asks to go tomorrow as well.

She is always telling me all this random facts about every single species. There's a reason of why she is so obssesed about learning all about them, and why she asks for so many books about the subject. She loves them all. Except mosquitos, she hates those and honestly who doesn't? They are so annoying. But all the other species are fine, even if some are weird and gross looking, according to her.

I do know if she could save every single animal and prevent them from getting hurt in any un-natural way, she would do anything and everything. I love how much she cares about animals and how happy it makes her to keep learning about them.

The only thing I'm afraid of, is that she is capable of convincing me to bring more living beings into this house, this family. She is extremely capable.

Sofía's pov:
The shelter hasn't been that full this last week. There are not that many dogs to run around with or cats to cuddle with. Even the two bunny's that were rescued in december have been adopted. So it's kinda quiet.

Katie, the owner of the shelter, tells me that today it's my turn to take the dogs outside, to the back, so they can spend sometime in the sun using all their energy.

I grab two balls and two squeaky toys, alongside with my hat, because even tho it's winter and there's snow, there's still a lot of sun. And Mama doesn't want me getting burned.

I take all the dogs out of their pens, all 7 of them. They know exactly where we are going so they just follow me and then wait for me to open the backdoor, before running off like crazy.

I throw them one toy at a time, watching them trying to catch them all, getting confussed. This keeps going for a good 15 minutes, until some start playing with each other and no longer pay attention to the balls, while other decide to lay and rest a bit. There one that comes to me and lays her head on my lap. Lucy.
