𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐀𝐓 𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐊𝐈𝐄 and mickey, her left leg bouncing up and down as she stared at the back of her brother's head. john b was dressed in an orange jumpsuit, handcuffs around his wrists as he stood and faced the judge. when he had walked in, rain could clearly see the bruises lining his face from what deputy thomas had done the day before. he looked exhausted and scared, and rain couldn't blame him. she'd be fucking terrified.
"john booker routledge, pursuant to the north carolina statute section 14, you are charged with murder in the first degree with aggravated circumstances. if convicted, the maximum sentence would be the death penalty." the judge said into the mic, rain's heart dropping immediately.
the courtroom filled with a bunch of voices, people talking over one another as they got up from their seats. the pogues stayed silent, rain looking down at the floor as her eyes started to water. she sucked in a deep breath before releasing a shaky one. her leg stopped bouncing as she clenched her hands into tight fists.
"your honor, he's 17!" jj yelled as he shot up from his seat. "he's 17! are you kidding me?"
pope and mickey quickly stood up, pushing the blonde boy towards the doors so that he wouldn't cause a scene. kie and sarah stood up as well, rain staying seated as she continued to stared down at the floor. the tears that had welled up in her eyes had trailed down her cheeks, the girl silently crying to herself. almost like he had sensed it, john b turned around and looked at his sister, his heart breaking when he had seen that she was crying. this was killing her as much as it was killing him.
