That mini brawl at Law's restaurant was a mess. However, he wasn't that upset. He never tolerates people belittling his customers. It did give him an idea. Besides that, we all ate our food, paid for our meal and went home.
It was a long ride home. (S/N) was already asleep in the backseat. Steve was driving and I was sitting in the passenger seat looking out the window at the stars. Steve started making a conversation to fill the silence.
"Well. Eventhough we had to deal with some disrespectful people, we had a good meal. I'm still very sorry that you had to deal with some of my rowdy fans."
"Don't apologize for them. Really. It's not like they're kids or stupid. They literally picked that fight, but I did throw the first punch. I should be the one to apologize. At least for that."
"Let's not worry about that right now. I wanted to get back to something else that I wanted to talk to you about."
"What is that you wanted to talk about?"
"The bracelet that I gave you at the hospital."
When Steve said that, I had to think about it. When he came to visit me, he left a rose and a bracelet. I was wearing it. I took it off to show him.
"You meant THIS bracelet. I appreciate you for the fact you were busy but still came to see if I was doing fine." Steve smiled.
"Well, there's a reason why I asked about the bracelet. Do you think it reminds you of anything?"
"Yeah. It actually does. An old friend that I knew when I was a kid made a bracelet for me. I made one for him too and gave it to him. A person he knew came and ripped up my bracelet and that man dragged him away. I never saw the boy again."
"That's sad and unfortunate. Did you remember the boy's name?"
"No. The lady he was with told me once before. but I forgot."
"Did you remember what the bracelet looked like that you made for that boy?" Steve asked trying to sound curious and concerned.
"Yeah. It was blue with grey stars on it." I said to Steve.
"Well. Did it looked like this?" He said as he pulled out the exact same bracelet that I described.
"That's.....that's the bracelet."
"That boy was me. The reason why you didn't see me or that lady anymore was because I was a test subject . The lady was separated from me and I never saw her again."
"Steve. How did you even know that I was the same girl?"
"I never forget faces. You and that lady were the only two people that brought me happiness in my life."
"What about the lady? I thought she was your mom."
"She wasn't my mom sadly. She was one of the doctors that actually treated me like a human instead of a subject. They told her to stay away from me and that was the last time I've seen her."
"And now?"
"Now, I'm just trying to figure out why I was ever there in the lab. Who my parents were? What happened with you?"
"Well. I was an orphan. I was never adopted and neither was my sister. When I was able to get a job, and saved enough money, I got us an apartment and we stayed together."
"That's good that you stayed safe and took care of yourselves. I did too. These championships definitely didn't fall in my lap."
That got a little chuckle out of me. Steve noticed my smile and smiled with me.
"I got one more thing to tell ask you."
"Yes Steve."
"Do you want to work with me? I want to have team of fighters along with security. Your sister can come too."
Work with Steve? Well......I got more questions for him later. About his family if he knows them.
"It's going to be a lot of stuff to move and put in storage."
Steve immediately took that as a yes, got excited and hugged me. Forgot that he was driving.
"Steve!!! The road!!!!"
"Oh Shit!!!" He swerved back on the lane.
We both took a long, relieved, unified breath after realizing we were.
"Let's wait until we get home to celebrate."
