Lars Part 5

It's 7:00 in the morning. Even though I slept most of the day away yesterday, I still feel completely drained after struggling to actually sleep since I had those nightmares. That slowly started to go away as I started to smell something amazing. I quietly peeked to see Lars cooking. However, I see my daughters cooking with him while they spoke about me and their uncle, my brother.

"Uncle was a great fighter. He taught us how to defend ourselves too." One of my daughters said.

"Yeah. Do you know when he's coming back, Mr. Alex?"

I thought about it. I never told my girls that my brother died. They were never going to see him again. The last time they saw him was before he left to join the army.

"You'll have to ask your mother about your uncle. I don't think she would want me to tell you without her around." Lars didn't want to break the news to them either. I wonder if he told them stories about my brother.

"Speaking of her, can you girls check to see if she is still sleeping upstairs." Lars asks them. As he was talking to them, I made it back to my room and pretended to be asleep. The girls open the door to 'wake me up.'

"Hello mom. We made breakfast." "Are you up mom? Come downstairs."

*yawning* "Good morning to you two too." Let me change into something else and I'll be right there. Ok?"

"Ok. We'll wait right outside the door." Then they walked out the door closing it.

I put on some clothes then went to get my phone just to see text messages and missed calls. I opened up my phone to look at the messages. It was my ex. Somehow he got my new number.

"I will find you and I will get the girls back. You can't hide behind another man. This is why your brother is dead. Do you really want more blood on your hands? Then PICK UP YOUR PHONE!!!!!!"

Reading that made me realize what really happened. My ex got my brother killed. Now he feels like I can't be protected anymore.

I went downstairs again to join everyone else in the kitchen. I need to tell Lars, but not in front of the girls.

The day came and went.

It's only 8:30pm and the girls are already in bed. I'm downstairs in the kitchen with a cup of tea in my hands. I didn't drink it yet because I'm thinking about how can I tell Lars what's going on now?

"You been staring at your cup for 2 minutes. Are you ok?" Lars asked me. I didn't realize that he noticed me doing so.

"It's just......." I just need to get it out.

"I wanted to wait for the girls to be in bed. There's something that happened and now it brings to a question that I need to ask you."

Lars sat next to me in the kitchen. "You can tell me what's bothering you. What did you want to ask me?"

"How exactly did you find out about my brother dying?"

Lars stoop up and then took a long, deep, slow breath.

"I sent your brother to do research mission with six people. They were supposed to be undercover. However, when they actually found the information we needed, four of them switched sides. They were secretly working for the G Corporation, sent in as spies. The other two and your brother made it out alive. I had them report to me immediately, then the attack happened. One of the other guys was another rat. They sent an amateur to assassinate me,.....

.........but your brother jumped in front of the bullet."

It was a lot that I had to take in. A mission gone wrong that cost my brother his life.

"The bullet got him in his chest. He wasn't going to make it. The last thing he told me was to find you and protect you. I think it's because he knew something else. About your ex."

"What about my ex?"

"Your ex-husband is part of the G Corporation and is tracking you down to get information from you."

"WHAT? HOW?"

"From the information I was able to get on him, he's been part of it for years. Probably even before he met you."

"And now he found me again. I don't know what he's trying to get from me. There's not much that I know about my brother's line of work."

"It wasn't about your brother. It was about you. He wanted you to hurt. If I didn't get to you, he was."

"Then what can we do now other than just moving locations?"

"We are going to fight back and take him out."
