BUT YEAH I WAS TWELVE WHEN I STARTED THIS LMAOAOA. i was in 7th grade, too. now, it's august of 2022 and i'm going into 11th grade aka junior year of HIGH SCHOOL.
yikes.
anyways, first thing's first, i know it's been a while but i'm NOT DISCONTINUING THIS FIC I PROMISE. i've never for a second even spared it a thought, actually. this fic is my absolute baby, and was one of the first ones i ever posted on my account. well, the first one was actually a hamilton fanfiction from like 2017 but shhhhh we don't talk about her LMAO she's still in my drafts for memories as are all of my old works <33 but yeah, scabulous is one of the ogs and is my most popular work, and DEFINITELY one of the stories that i've put a lot of time and effort into. just look at that reading time for the fic itself, man...
scabulous happened because i became a bnha addict in 2018 and todoroki, while i didn't really care for him much initially (never disliked him, just shrugged whenever he popped on screen lol), was VERY popular so when i searched up bnha fics, his name usually popped up 😭 fanfictions of him were what made me grow fond of him, really, and whenever i rewatched and reread the series, i found myself growing more attached to it until i grew the desire to write my OWN fic of him, and BOOM!! scabulous was born. i figured out a lot of the plot along the way after chapters had been dropped, especially the circumstances with (y/n)'s mom and even the whole jobon thing. even (y/n)'s father being all for one wasn't a thing until later on in the brainstorming process when i thought it might lead to an interesting dynamic between her and todoroki
oh, speaking of (y/n), i should probably talk about that lol... i've been going back and forth about this since 2020, but i've finally decided that i'm actually going to be going back and editing past chapters. DON'T FREAK OUT. by that, i mean just cleaning it up from a visual standpoint and fixing a few incorrectly placed commas here and there. i will not be changing any wording, really, unless it's misspelled or something along those lines, and the fic itself WILL NOT BE CHANGING OTHERWISE. i'm not rewriting anything, as a big thing keeping me from doing this sooner was my love of nostalgia. even though older chapters were messier, looking back helped me realize just how much i've grown as a writer, and i have no desire to rewrite anything. plus, i still like my past writing in this story a decent amount, and even some choices i've found fitting despite looking back at them with a bit of a cringe lol. LIKE (Y/N)'S ORIGINAL HERO COSTUME IS SO 😭 BUT IT'S ALSO SO HER LMAOAOAOA
oh also another thing, i will be making alternative versions of scabulous with he/him (specifically amab reader) and they/them (specifically gender-neutral reader) pronouns. due to this, some scenes will be changed, namely scenes like where (y/n) is chilling with the girls in their locker room and in the hot springs, but the plot will be the same, and there will be alternative scenes to replace them!! same purpose across versions, just a different setting and slightly different wording depending on the particular case. these will come AFTER i finish editing this fic, and it will take some time, but it's something i've been wanting to do for years now, especially as of late due to my own gender identity lol <33
aaand now, i have one more thing to say. drum roll... NEW CHAPTERS WILL BE DROPPING V V SOON!! and by soon, i mean either by the end of this month but DEFINITELY by the end of september. as i've explained a few times before, but not really officially in an author's note ig, the reason i didn't work on this fic for a while wasn't because i hated it, or didn't have any plot, but because i fell out of bnha. i still loved the story, but at some point, i stopped keeping up with it and broke away from the fandom to focus on others. while away from home, however, i logged back onto this account and actually just scrolled through a few chapters and replied to some comments, and i realized how much i miss it and want to continue. i've spent the last two days just watching clips and compilations and uGHHHH it made me want to write again, so here i am :'] both chapters have already been started ( and yes, one is a special chapter about jobon!! ), like, since 2020 lol,,, i just haven't finished them, but i know where they're going, and i'll work hard to make them good!!
reading all of your comments and seeing all of the support on this fic and my others have made me feel SO GRATEFUL for all of you :(( writing has been my passion since i was 10 and seeing people enjoy what i put out as much as i enjoy creating it truly makes my day, so i want to say thank you to every single one of you <33 even if you didn't read every word of this ( i know i didn't 😭 some of those paragraphs are long ok ), i still appreciate you taking time out of your day to click/press/tap on this fic, and i hope i've made it worth your while!! i'm so sorry it's been so long, but i promise, i will finish this story if it's the last thing i do. whether that's in 2023 ( we're definitely not finishing this in 2022 sorry LMAOO ) or years from then, i promise i will give you the ending this fic deserves 💪
but ofc, we don't have to worry about ending-related stuff just yet anyways, as it'll be a while until then. i'm still unsure where, exactly, i want to leave off canon-wise, but i'm contemplating just going through with it and writing 'til the canonical end of bnha itself ( obviously by that point, it would be more about (y/n) and her character rather than her relationship with todo, and even then, there's still a LOT of things going on with todo(y/n) in general before we fully get groovy, and don't even get me STARTED on (y/n) and her bonds with everyone else ), but we'll see what happens. pls feel free to give ur suggestions and thoughts on that one :]
