ADAM LAUGHED!
he leaned over to pick up the ball, preparing to make fun of how bad cherry's tosses were.
but when he looked up, she wasn't there.
he was instantly filled with dread, and he could feel his heart sink down into the ground.
he thought he had accepted it.
he knew it was coming.
he knew she was gonna disappear.
but it hurt.
it hurt so, so fucking bad.
she was his soul, and now, she was gone.
and, as horrible as it was, he wished he'd forgotten her.
because now all he was left with was the painful memory of her, and a ring stuck somewhere in the galaxy.
he had hundreds of stories, but no girl to prove them with.
he knew everyday, the thought of her would haunt him.
it would never get better.
she was somewhere else, now.
the idea of that horrified uim.
she was somewhere else.
alone.
she probably forgot about him.
she was probably in peace, smiling, happy, with friends.
she probably had a new boyfriend or girlfriend.
she deserved to be happy. adam just wished she was happy with him.
cherry consumed his thoughts, and he was terrified that he wasn't even a flicker in hers.
he wanted to believe that their love was strong enough to withstand different entirely realities.
but were these two children stronger than the universe?
memories of sitting by the water flooded his mind.
the bright blue sky and matching water collided with the color of his eyes.
the warmth radiated off of the memory, providing him an ounce of comfort as he tried to remember the sound of her laugh and the way she smiled.
but he wanted to cry as he felt the memory fade away.
he couldn't hear it anymore.
it was silent.
it was late at night.
there were no stars out, and the moon was nowhere in sight.
everything was empty.
the trees moved silently, which only made him think about the first time he saw his older self.
