I wake up slowly and I feel someone's arm around my side so I slowly turn over to see Bob holding me. I smile and my cheeks grow warm and red. I look at him and see that he left his glasses on, so I gently slip them off his face and put them on the stand by the bed. I look around the room to see that Natasha is back in our hospital room, I sigh in relief knowing that she's okay overall. I wish I knew what had gotten into her, we used to be friends but ever since Bob and I started talking she's been acting differently, almost hostile. Unless......

"Morning, sleepy head" Bob says in a deeper voice than usual that causes me to blush.

"Who are you calling sleepyhead? I was up before you!" I giggle and he laughs. He sits up, revealing a bit of his bare chest and my eyes grow wide and I quickly look away, embarrassed.

"Hey Lottie?" He says.

"Hm?" I say, not looking at him.

"It would be nice to actually see you." He says with a small laugh.

"What?" I turn to face him, with a confused look on my face.

"My glasses...everything is a blur." He laughs more.

"Shoot! Right!" I laugh as I grab his glasses and carefully open them and gently slide them on his face. His smile grows wider as he adjusts his glasses then he leans in close to me so I lean in and close my eyes as our lips meet and we kiss softly.

"Hey, lover boy." A familiar voice says, so we both pull away from each other and I jump out of the bed.

"Jake!" I say looking at him then at Bob with wide eyes.

"Our little double date is cancelled." Jake says and Bob and I look at each other confused then we look back at Jake. "Maverick wants us to practice some stupid maneuver." He rolls his eyes.

"Great..." Bob says in an annoyed tone as he gets up, revealing his six pack that I don't think any of us knew he had.

"That's fair." I say sarcastically and shake my head then look over at Bob and blush intensely. Bob quickly puts his uniform on and gets ready.

"This sucks." Bob says, walking over to Jake, who nods in response.

"Where's Sandy?" I ask Jake. Thankfully I had fallen asleep in my uniform so I don't have to change.

"She's already at the hanger, didn't want to be late. Let's go or you better be looking forward to a nice long lecture from Maverick." Jake explains as he wakes Natasha, who also already has her uniform on. "Common, Nat." He says to her and helps her out of bed. Her face is bruised and she holds her ribs as she gets up. My heart drops seeing her like that...I did that to her.

"Natasha...I'm so sorry." I say as I walk to her and she gives me a slight nod.

"Walk and talk, ladies!" Jake says, holding the door open for us. Nat, Bob, and I all sign out of the hospital and head to the hanger, where everyone is already seated and Maverick was already talking.

"Crap..." I mumble under my breath. As we walk in Maverick stops talking and everyone looks back at us, Yale gently hits Fritz's shoulder and points to us laughing quietly. "Real mature, Yale." I say, looking at him and he suddenly stops laughing and looks at me angrily.

'"Nice." Natasha whispers to me and I smile.

"So you all decided to join today. Funny I don't remember saying these classes were optional or just show up whenever you choose." Maverick says to us.

"Sorry, Mav." Jake says.

"Sorry, sir." Nat and Bob say at the same time.

"It wont happen again." I say to him.

"You're darn right it wont. Do you four even realize how important this mission is? This isn't school, I'm not going to send you to the principal and scold you, but I can cut you from the mission." He says, looking more serious than I've seen him.

"Sorry...." We all say as we take our seats. He starts explaining our task for the day to us, occasionally a few of us will look at each other with a look of 'this mission is impossible'.

"Today you will be focusing on staying below the hard deck. You pull up, there will be an army of missiles to greet you. You will need to work with each other, one wrong move from ant of you and BOOM someone doesn't come back from the mission." Maverick says as he looks out at all of us. "Not only do you have to fly lower than you ever have before but you will also need to fly faster than you have flown. One minute late and guess what? You're in for a dog fight against F18 planes."

"There's no way we would survive that..." I say then I look over to Bob to see he's already looking at me with a worried expression.

"What if we aren't ready for this?" Natasha asks.

"I hate to say it but you have no choice. Aviators, I believe in you. Each and every one of you is the best of the best. That's why you are here." Maverick says.

"Darn right I am!" Hangman says.

"We are." I correct him.

"Yeah yeah...." He waves his hand down, brushing off what I said.

"You do realize he's only taking one of us to be the wingman on this mission right?" Bradley says, turning to Jake.

"And he's obviously taking me. Im the better pilot, its just simple facts." Jake says back.

"And what makes you the better pilot? Cause last I heard you leave your wingman hanging." I say defending Bradley.

"Can we not do this today?" Sandy asks.

"She's right. What did I just say about working as a team...I don't know who I'm bringing on this mission with me, but you need to understand what I'm telling you. Someone might not come back from this mission alive. Bradley, if you go just a little too slow Phoenix and Bob are dead. Hangman, you go to fast and net thing you know they can't keep up and boom Phoenix and Bob are dead." He explains and m heart drops just thinking about the possibility of one of us dying on this mission.

"That's on them, if they can't keep up with me how is that my problem?" Jake says.

"Why don't you explain that to his family or her family while they mourn the loss of their child." Maverick says and suddenly everyone goes quiet. Maverick goes back to teaching us what we need to do and we all listen intensely and watch carefully at everything he does. "You ready to test this out?" Maverick asks.

"Ready as I'll ever be." Bob says causing me to slightly laugh.

"Let's go kick some enemy butt." Jake says then winks at Bradley and I.

"Let's do this! Are you ready?" Bradley asks me as he helps me up to my seat in the plane as I put my helmet and mask on.

"Ready." I say giving him a thumbs up.

"3...2...1...." Maverick counts down. "Ready for takeoff!!"
