Without warning, the Sorting Hat twitched and and a rip near the brim opened up like a mouth it began to sing.

"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty but don't judge on what you see, I'll eat myself if you can find a smarter hat than me. You can keep your bowlers black, your top hats sleek and tall, for I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat and I can cap them all. There's nothing hidden in your head the Sorting Hat can't see, so try me on and I will tell you where you ought to be. You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart, their daring nerve, and chivalry set Gryffindors apart; you might belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal, those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil; or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you've a ready mind, where those of wit and learning, will always find their kind; or perhaps in Slytherin you'll make your real friends, those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends. So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! You're in safe hands (though I have none) For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

All of the students clapped at the end of the song as Professor McGonagall stepped forward with a roll of parchment.

"When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted. Abbott, Hannah!"

I watched as student after student walked up to the stool and sat down to be sorted, it was quite exciting. Soon enough, Draco was called up.

The hat had barely touched his head before it yelled out, "Slytherin!"

Draco smirked and walked over to the table where students were wearing green accents in their robes.

More students were sorted as I stood their, impatiently waiting for my name to be called. I began to zone out, just staring at the ceiling.

"Potter, Harry!"

I heard whispers all around me as the famous Harry Potter nervously walked up to the stool and sat down.

"Gryffindor," the hat yelled after what felt like forever.

There were only a few people left to be sorted now, I was one of them.

"Rosewood, Y/n!"

I walked up to the stool and sat down as Professor McGonagall placed the hat on my head.

"Hm, a Rosewood? Shall you be placed in Slytherin like your mother and father? Or maybe Ravenclaw, you have the brains for it. I believe it'll be SLYTHERIN," the hat had said.

I sighed with content and got up from the stool, making my way towards Draco and Pansy.

"I'm glad you're in Slytherin," Pansy whispered beside me.

"I am too, I think we're going to become great friends."

"Me too."

I turned my attention back to the sorting ceremony where the Weasley boy was being sorted. One more boy was after him and then Professor Dumbledore rose from his seat, said some gibberish and then food appeared.

It was magical and the food was simply delightful, it might have been better than my mum's cooking.

Throughout the feast, I spoke with Pansy, Draco, and Blaise, who was the last boy to be sorted into Slytherin.

After the food disappeared, Professor Dumbledore stood up and began a speech. He spoke about the Forbidden Forest and some corridor being off limits, I didn't listen that much.

I was so grateful when he finally said we can go to our common rooms, I was beyond tired.

The prefect, Gemma Farley, told us to follow her as she lead us down to the dungeons.

My parents had already described the Slytherin common room to me and it was just as beautiful as they had described it.

"Boys dormitories on the left, girls on the right. All of your belongings should already be up there," Gemma said to us.

Pansy and I walked up the stairs and to the right with a few other girls. I quickly found my bed in the dorm and sat down on it.

Luckily, Pansy's bed was right next to mine so I would have her to talk to, I didn't know any other girls.

I turned to the girl that would be on the other side of me and introduced myself.

"Hello, I'm Y/n Rosewood. What's your name?"

"I'm Daphne Greengrass. I think I've seen you around at parties before."

"Probably, my parents are always dragging me to those dreadful parties, but I usually just keep to myself at them."

I spoke with Daphne a little more and then with some of the other girls who I learned were Millicent Bulstrode and Tracey Davis. They all seemed to be very nice.

Soon enough, it was time to go to bed. I laid down in the four poster bed and drifted off to sleep quickly.
