Part 3!

Let's get into it!!

I wasn't going, and that was the end of that conversation.

And off they went, spending several days in Venice before I heard from her again. In the letter she sent, they had an amazing view and a wonderful house to stay in. Though I couldn't shake the feeling of Kate wanting me there as support.

Millie was sick, had been for a while.. Kate needed me, and so I headed on my first trip out of the country as fast as I could..

So much for having ended that conversation.

"Y/n! What made you change your mind?"

Millie, Kate and I was walking down a narrow street, the two ladies eyeing me with interest.

"Oh I was always going to visit, it just took some time to get all my business in order."

We walked up to a larger building, looking to be a hotel, hell, the place certainly wasn't worth the money a room had to offer. Thankfully, Millie allowed me to stay at the house she and Kate were staying in.

Italy was quite as beautiful as she had described it in the letter, though what I had not seen was the peace in which it came. We had wine and bread by the river, being photographed by Millie...

Kates hand rounded my waist as we sat down on the steps, her smile genuine.

The boats were another story though.. The man leading the romantic boats made it very clear that only two people were allowed in each and so I offered myself to be the odd one out..

Kate immediately interfered and got into a boat by herself, ending with me sharing a boat with Millie. Again, Kate was either trying to get me to spend time with her friend, or disregard ours.

Nonetheless, the river was beautiful, the light shimmering and reflecting onto the buildings. The conversation was light between the two boats, the situation seeming almost magical... no wonder Millie believed in fairytales.

The night went on, and the very next day we found ourselves inside a grand church with high and beautiful ceiling.

Suddenly, Millie stopped by a few stairs, wondering if anyone would like to climb to the top for the view. Funnily enough, I'm not good with heights, so I declined. To my surprise, so did Kate.. and so Millie was on her way up the stairs with her care woman, not a falter in her smile as she climbed.

This left Kate and I alone, walking along the open street of Venice.

"Why'd you say no? You should've gone with her.."

Kate had blurted out at random. A thought came to mind, and I could not shake that it was true in a way.

"Why do you want me to be with her all the time? Last night for example?"

She looked at me, a tint of shame in her eyes, yet we kept walking.

"I don't want her to feel left out... and I do know that she minds.. she's.."

She paused, holding my hand and taking me to a halt. Her eyes looked into mine very seriously.

"She's in love with you.."

Love?? She's hardly gotten to know me yet, and why would Kate want me to spend time with Millie if she knows she's in love with me?? To get rid of me??

"She hardly knows you, but... that's the way she is.."

Then she went silent and kept walking, telling me in a quiet way to follow. The bells clanged in the distance, bird wings flapping over head.
