Natasha POV:
Images flashed before my eyes.
I was riding a blue bike down a suburb's streets in Ohio. A child with a face I couldn't quite see said hello as I rode past.
Then, I was in a backgarden whistling low and then high as I came from between a set of bushes, shielding my eyes from the midday sun. I set my eyes on a blonde girl bent over backwards, her hands and feet on the ground in a position that looked like a bridge. She responded with a high whistle followed by a low one, responding to my whistle. Her hair was swept in front of her face but I knew who she was.
Yelena.
I stood over her and then bent over the same way she was. She was delighted with this and noted that "We're both upside down!"
Words that weren't mine fell from my mouth. "And I bet you're going to fall down first."
"No you will!" She responded sticking out her tongue.
The image faded again replaced this time by a forest filled with bright floating lights against a setting sun, my gaze fixated upon them until a soft but familiar voice called out to me. I couldn't hear the words but I knew it meant I had to leave. So, I did.
I was sat at a table next, food set upon it and Yelena opposite me while two other people, much taller than either of us sat at either end. The details of their clothes eluded me but I knew them as Mom and Dad.
Melina and Alexei.
Alexei spoke about an adventure. Yelena was overjoyed, Melina was sad. I was silent. Alexei and Yelena left. Melina stared at me...pity in her gaze. "I'm sorry."
The car was driving very fast. The house seemed a blur, the streets joining together and seperating like they were some living breathing being. I almost missed the child from before who had greeted me. A song played as we drove. I only heard one lyric played over and over.
"This'll be the day that I die"
It was the middle of the night now and then there was a hangar, shoddily made, with tarp barely covering a metal frame which hid a small plane underneath. I grabbed a set of pictures from somewhere. I looked at it, seeing me and Yelena smiling at one another. Alexei pushed me forwards and scolded me. "Go with your Mom, Go with your Mom."
I was in the plane driving down a runway of dirt and dust. Alexei was on the wing loud bangs coming from the hunting rifle he held. Shots fired from police cars that materialised from nowhere. Suddenly Melina was shot. Yelena screamed. Alexei shot back.
Melina told me to help her. I moved without thought. She said to pull right, I pulled right destroying a car trapped under the wing. She said to accelerate, I accelerated. The car under the wing was let go in a hailstorm of shrapnel.
There were two bright lights at the end of the runway. Melina was calm. Yelena shouted. I was silent.
Melina told me to count until we took off. Count to 55. Melina started the counting, Yelena and me helped.
"45"
Alexei was clinging to the wing of the plane crawling close to the door.
"50"
The lights at the end of the runway became cars that shot at us through the windows.
"55"
Alexei shot them down. Melina told me to pull back as hard as I could, I pulled back watching as the cars collided and the ground beneath us became open air. Alexei clinged to the wing of the plane smiling through fritted teeth at us.
