The pair sat down with their cups of tea. Both got muffins as well. They were hungry from the night in the studio.
"So - are you gonna remember us little people when you're an idol?" Jimin mused, only half teasing. He loved having Yoongi around, even if it was chaotic with their schedules. Whether it be friends, or something more one day, he knew he wanted to keep Yoongi in his life.
"Only the ones worth remembering," Yoongi replied with a smirk.
"Am I on that list?"
"Of course Jimin. I really enjoy your company. I haven't met anyone like you before."
"Is that a good thing?" Jimin asked with a laugh. He couldn't help the faint blush on his cheeks.
"It's a great thing Jiminie."
"I love when you call me that," Jimin replied, the blush deepening on his cheeks.
"I love to call you that," Yoongi replied without missing a beat.
He thought about Jimin's question and thought he should answer it fully. "I'm not really excited about idol life, you know. I mean, sure, it will be amazing for people to hear my music and hopefully love it. To perform it for them. But the fame. Paparazzi. Expectations. I'm not looking forward to that. I wish I could just be Yoongi who happens to make music. I know it won't be like that though."
"Expectations?" Jimin asked, cocking his head sideways in an inquisitive look.
"Yeah you know how it is for them. Have to look a certain way. Act a certain way. Be single. I will have a little more freedom since I'm a rapper but not much."
Jimin felt his breath hitch. He hadn't even thought about the fact that Yoongi couldn't date if he was an idol. He wasn't even certain that Yoongi thought about him that way. He realized that he was always the one to initiate physical contact. This could definitely be a reason why. Yoongi knew he couldn't date. At least not while he was an active idol. Maybe Yoongi only saw him as a friend? Maybe he read the signs wrong. It's not like he was an expert.
Yoongi watched Jimin as he seemed lost in his thoughts. It seemed to drag on forever. He never looked up from his tea.
"Are you ok?" he finally asked, waving his hands in front of Jimin's face.
Jimin startled out of whatever thoughts he was having. He looked up at Yoongi with sad eyes.
"Yeah, sorry. I was just thinking about what you were saying."
"You look upset. Which part were you thinking about?"
Jimin's eyes went wide and he blushed a deep pink. He looked back down at his tea. Yoongi was so direct sometimes.
Yoongi reached out and squeezed his hand. "It's ok. You can tell me."
Jimin looked into Yoongi's expectant eyes. His gaze shifted over his beautiful soft hair, pink lips, his hand that was still holding onto Jimin's own. He couldn't tell him. Not when he was about to get everything he worked so hard for. He couldn't make it complicated.
"I was just thinking how much it must suck that you don't get to date any pretty girls."
"I don't want to date pretty girls Jimin," Yoongi replied, looking him straight in the eyes and knowing that was not what had him acting this way.
"No?"
"I much prefer pretty boys."
Jimin's cheeks heated again and he looked back down at his tea.
"I don't know how to respond to that," he whispered.
"You don't have to. I just want you to know where I stand."
The silence hung for a moment. Both now knew what the other wanted. Both were afraid to go for it. There was too much on the line. Jimin had university and work. A scandal with an upcoming idol would bring attention he knew he didn't want. Yoongi had his whole career right at his fingertips. He was about to debut. It was just weeks away. A dating scandal could take all of it away.
Yoongi sipped his tea that was getting cold. Jimin mirrored his action.
"How are your classes going?" Yoongi asked, knowing they needed a subject change. The night couldn't end like this.
"They are great actually. My professors are awesome and I'm learning a lot."
"That's great. You were definitely a lot of help to me tonight with my lyrics. What's your favorite type of writing to do?"
"I'm a novel writer. I'm working on one now in my free time."
"Novels?! Wow, I would never have guessed. You were amazing with short phrasing. Can I read it? You've read mine. It's only fair," Yoongi said with a wink.
"I have to take classes for all types of writing so it was good practice from my poetry classes. I love novels because they give me the chance to fully develop my characters and story. I feel like anything else is lacking. And no you can't read it yet. I need to finish and edit it before anyone can read it. It's my baby," Jimin replied with a chuckle.
I want you to be my baby Yoongi thought to himself quickly.
"Really?!" Yoongi replied with a shocked tone. "You literally listened to my deepest darkest feelings and thoughts tonight. And I can't read any of your work? At least let me read the first few chapters."
Jimin looked at him with wide eyes and a small smirk. He did not want to agree to this. BUT he knew Yoongi was right. He had seen right into Yoongi's soul through his music. He could return the favor.
"Ok. 3. I'll let you read 3. It'll be just enough to get you hooked," Jimin replied, returning Yoongi's wink.
"Deal," Yoongi replied, leaning back with a satisfied smile on his face. "When are you going to be finished? Are you going to publish it?"
"I'm not sure honestly. To both. Since I can only work on it in my spare time, it's coming along slowly. I don't know if I will be able to publish it. I think I'm gonna try. Hopefully I find a publisher who will take a chance on a new author. If not, I might publish online myself. I haven't thought about it much. Just trying to write it for now."
"That's awesome Jimin. I'm so proud of you."
Jimin looked at his phone and realized they had been there nearly two hours.
"As much as I wish I could stay and talk all night, I need to head home and get some sleep. I'm going back to work tomorrow and have some assignments due also."
The pair again gathered their belongings and stood up.
"Are you going to come see me tonight?" Jimin asked with a laugh since it was technically already morning.
"If you want me to. I have to work tomorrow also. Need to record the song we finished tonight. But I can come after."
"That would be great," Jimin beamed at him.
"Ok, I'll see you tonight," Yoongi smiled and gently tucked a piece of Jimin's hair behind his ear.
Jimin blushed and followed Yoongi out of the cafe. Friends was gonna be so hard. But it was better than nothing.
Them. 💜💜
