Sitting down at my table, I scan the cafeteria.

And then I see him.

I can hear my friends talking in the background.

But it's muffled, as I'm not really paying attention.

But there he is, surrounded by a group of pretty girls.

They're all swarming him like bees.

Not realizing I'm staring, he looks over.

We lock eyes, and then I look away, embarrassed.

A few minutes later, I dared to glance over again.

He bends over on his knees and pats one of the girls on the head.

His whole group laughs and his face lights up.
Smiling, his braces shine in the light.

Looking away again, I sigh.

He has all the options in the whole school.

Why would he pick me?

And that's exactly it.

He wouldn't.
