Today is the day that Dougie finally gets out of jail. I sat on the couch waiting for Nas and Shani to come to pick me up so we can go get him because my car still hasn't arrived. My phone chimed and I looked down at it, seeing a text from Shani.

I walked out of my apartment, locking the door behind me. Once I got outside of the building, I got in the car that was parked right in front.

I slid into the backseat sitting behind the passenger seat. "Good morning," I said, and Shani and Nas both greeted me.

"This nigga Kay mad slow," Nas spoke, making me groan internally. Kay was also going with us to pick up Dougie because, you know, that's his best friend. I get it. But, after our encounter at the studio, I'm really not looking forward to this car ride at all.

"Call that nigga and tell him to hurry the fuck up," Shani said, voice laced with irritation.

Nas grabbed his phone from the cup holder and dialed his number, putting the phone on speaker. "Bro, what the hell are you doing? I been told you I was outside like ten minutes ago."

"Bro- I'm coming outside right now," Kay said, before hanging up the phone.

"But I would be wrong if left I his ass," Nas said quietly to himself.

About a minute later, the door to the building three buildings down from mine opened, revealing Kay. This is the building Kay had grown up in.

He looked around for the car and approached it once he saw it. I look out of the window at Kay as he walked toward the car, confused at what was taking him so long. He look like he had just rolled out of bed. He has a white, wife beater on with some baggy, black sweatpants and slides, with a raggedy-ass ponytail.

He stopped when he reached the car, yanking the door open to the side I was sitting on. He looked down at me with his eyebrows furrowed. Smacking his lips and exhaling deeply, he said, "Move over."

"You could've just got in on the other side," I said scooting over to sit behind Nas who was in the driver's seat.

"I could've," he replied smartly while getting in the car and closing the door.

"Kay, please don't start. It's too early for your attitude," Shani said, turning around to look at him.

"I didn't even do nothin'."

"Let's keep it that way. Okay?" ... "Okay," Shani said, answering her own question and turning back around to face forward.

Nas started the car and turns on his music before pulling off.

I unlocked my phone and opened the messages between me and Shani, turning my brightness down.
