the fourth of July in cousins is all about traditions. Susannah decks out the whole house, the dads come up for the weekend, the boys steam clams and shoot off fireworks. All the other fourth of Julys, I was just hanging with Belly and Jeremiah. But this year, I'm closer than ever with Jeremiah, it could be different

"can I finish your milk" Jeremiah asked me

"sure" I said while handing him my glass of milk

"thanks Lia" he said while giving me a big smile

"yo, I'm gonna go wash the clams" Conrad said from the kitchen

"did you get the lighter fluid" Jeremiah asked

"yeah its already on the beach" Conrad answered

later on, me and Belly were sitting outside talking with Susannah and our mom about the party Susannah was having this year

"I'm sure it has nothing to do with john coming to the clam bake" Susannah said

"oh please, the husbands always come for the fourth" My mom said while rolling her eyes

"he's not your husband anymore" Susannah said with a stern look

"oops yeah, ex-husband" Mom said while giggling

"you know, I still don't understand why you invited dads girlfriend" I said while rolling my eyes

"her name is Victoria, and your father wanted us all to meet her" Mom said "oh And belly I need you to make up the guest bed

"wait, dad and Victoria are staying here?" Belly asked "in the room next to me and Lia?"

"yeah" mom answered

"oh speaking of dads, yours called, he's closing a deal, so he cant come" Susannah said to Conrad.

"what?" Conrad asked confused

just then, Jeremiah come walking out the door "did you say dads not coming?" he asked

"mhm" Susannah said

"but I got some serious fireworks for the show this year" Jeremiah said, I could hear the disappointment in his voice.

"I'll still be here to see them" I said while standing up and walking over to Jeremiah "I'll always be here for you" I said while smiling

"thank you Lia" he said while going in for a hug

we hugged tightly and for a long time, when we pulled apart Belly and Conrad were gone and mom and Susannah were back to talking.

"hey lets go make some sandwiches or something, I'm starving" I said

"okay lets go" Jeremiah said while grabbing my hand and waking towards the house.

my dad and his girlfriend just pulled up and me, Belly, Steven, Conrad, and Jeremiah were all crowded around the door trying to see what she looks like.

"she's hot" Jeremiah said from beside me

"dude" Steven said with a look of disappointment

"what? I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking" he said while crossing his arms and rolling his eyes

"I was not thinking that" I said while looking at him. I know she's way older than him but still, he doesn't even call me hot.

"yo, that could be their future step mom" Conrad said

"dude, what the hell?" Steven said

"guys they're coming, they're coming" Belly said with a worried expression

"go, go, go, go!" Jeremiah said while leaving the room with Conrad.

"hey" Steven said when they walking in the door

"hey" our dad answered. "come give your old man a hug, huh?"

"dad!" Belly said while walking up to give him a hug

"hey dad" I said while hugging him. I know it sucks that my parents got divorced, but I really miss my dad sometimes, I was really close to him before he left and I think him leaving hit me the hardest out of the three of us.

"oh, my gosh! um.. this is Victoria" he said while gesturing to the pretty girl standing next to him.

"hi guys, it's really great to meet you" Victoria said nervously "I've heard nothing but 5 star reviews"

"here lets put this in the kitchen" Dad said while guiding her over to the kitchen.

"there is no way she's 27" Belly said in disbelieve

"we have to grab her wallet and check her ID" I said

"she's still in grad school, chill" Steven said while rolling his eyes.

"I cant chill, I mean, knock-off Dakota Johnson has her claws in our dad" Belly said dramatically

me and Jeremiah were currently outside sitting with our feet in the pool

"is it hard seeing your dad with another girl" Jeremiah asked

"I mean I guess a little, but the part that hurts most is that we don't have the same bond we used to" I said while looking down at my feet swaying in the water

"I remember you guys used to be like best friends, I'm really sorry about what happened, I wish I could of been there for you" he said with an apologetic face

"it's fine, I'm a lot better now, I did go through a lot of therapy for my depression but I think I'm a lot better" I said while finally looking at him and smiling

"well I'm glad your better now, I hate seeing you sad" he said while smiling back at me

"I love you" I said while going in for a kiss

"I love you too" he said after we finished kissing.
