2019
Starting a new job is scary enough but its even worse when everyone gets to witness your first day and thats whats going happening in my life now. After spending many years studying media which included tv production and also journalism I was finally able to get the job I'd always dreamed of presenting a show that covers motogp which has been my favourite sport ever since I was little. How I got the job I don't really know a position came up to be a part of the bt sport crew reporting on races so I applied thinking someone with more experience would get it but I ended up getting an interview and then getting the job. So now here we are at the first race of the season and my first day is today as its the first media day of the season.
Despite it being my first weekend I have been assigned to do all of the interviews with riders which apparently will be my job every weekend along with interviewing people on the grid and doing the odd put of presenting in between sessions. All of that sounds quite overwhelming but this is the job I wanted and I know I'll love it when I get used to it I'm just nervous for my first weekend about about messing up. I got my schedule yesterday and its pretty jam packed but I think that will be good for me as it will keep me too busy to be focused on any bad things. Throughout the day I have interviews with different riders including some of the rookies for this year which I'm quite excited for as the both of us will be new to this as they will be new to the class and I'm new to the paddock.
Since I arrived at the track I've been so nervous for my first interview to the point that I couldn't eat breakfast this morning and now my hands are shaking and not able to hold a mic straight which isn't the best. What's keeping me from spiralling too much is the fact that my first interview is with one of the rookies Fabio Quartararo who I have heard is a really nice and normal guy. Typically the interview is in pit lane in front of his garage which means I need to try and find a way through to pit lane which I don't know how to do without walking all the way to one end which isn't exactly great for timing. Walking up and down the paddock I have yet to find anyone who can help me or anywhere to get through and as time gets on its really starting to stress me out and I'm considering just going the super long way so that I'm not late. Just as I started walking towards the end of the paddock to access pit lane I felt someone tap my shoulder and so I turned around to see Marc Marquez of all people stood behind me.
"Do you need help with something?" He asked
"Oh I just need to find a way to pit lane for an interview" I replied trying my best not to freak out
"Well I can help with that you can walk through my garage no one will mind" he said
With that I followed him towards his garage where he opened the door for me and allowed me to walk straight through and to pit lane. When I went to thank him he was stood talking with some of his mechanics so I just walked away and towards Fabio's garage where some of the camera crew had already started to set up. Despite my schedule being pretty packed I told myself that I needed to find some time to thank Marc for helping me plus it was another chance to talk to him and hopefully show that I'm not just some idiot who doesn't know where they are going. I can't worry about that yet though as I have to at least get through this first interview and probably the next few after that before I have a bit of time to try and find Marc.
Just as I was getting myself together and turning the microphones on I saw someone sit in one of the chairs out the corner of my eye. When I looked up I saw Fabio sat there smiling and I had to turn away again as I felt my cheeks heating up from just how attractive Fabio was. Being attracted to any of the riders wasn't something I had thought about before I started but I really should of as a lot of the riders are attractive and around my age so I was bound to like one of them. Typically the first rider I'm interviewing is the one I've decided I find super attractive but I had to put that to the back of my mind and just get on with my job. Once I felt like my cheeks weren't going to be so red I turned back around and handed my second microphone to Fabio so that we could start the interview.
