If you read Young Shellington you might have read somewhere that he has a bad habit. That bad habit is chewing on his nails. I thought this habit 'FIT' him because he's always doing something with his paws like reading a book, doing his scientific research, and in the HQ working. So maybe when no one is watching or when he gets nervous or anxious, he bites his nails.
