Chapter one

"And I know you said relationships are off the table but if the right guy comes," Aron said, holding my hands from across the table.

"The right guy will never come," I said, snatching my hands from her grip. Her face looked pained, but she understood. Everyone here understood but no I had to move. I had to move with the person I hated. Everyone here knew me more than they ever could, would, or ever will. "Monić," Aron said, looking at me, her eyes glassy. "Don't start with the tears," I said nonchalantly as I waved down our waitress. "Receipt please," I said politely as she came towards our table. She nodded and rushed off to the back. "Promise me you won't forget me," Aron said her voice low and filled with sadness. "Yeah ok, whatever." I shrugged. Then it was silent. "You aren't going to ask me to promise you?" Aron said, looking at me expectedly. Again I shrugged "I mean last time you promised me something you ended up kissing Jack after I told you I had feelings for him so I don't know how reliable you are." I replied picking at my nails. "MON come on I told you it was a one-time thing-"

"Was that before or after you got into a relationship with him?"

Once those words left my mouth her shoulders sunk. "Mon, I've been trying to repay you since that happened. When are you going to give it up?" She said her voice sounded defeated. "Never because friends don't go behind people's backs and kiss their friends' crush KNOWING THEIR BEST FRIEND LIKES THEM. To make things worse I didn't even hear from you! I heard it from Jack after he rejected me because he had feelings for you! So excuse me if I'm a little salty that my so-called best friend took my crush after promising me she wouldn't." I said, slapping the money on the table before standing up and stomping out of the restaurant.

Maybe I was a little too harsh on Aron but everything that was happening just started to jumble up inside my brain. I had no clear emotion to one clear thing. Everything was linked and I was getting overwhelmed. Sighing I got on my bike and started pedaling as fast as I could to my house. I needed to get away from Aron and her fake tears and her fake apologies and just her in general. It's funny how one small action could change a whole friendship. I was so deep in thought I didn't even realize I had made it home or that there was another car in the driveway.

"Mon-" my mom tried but I stomped towards my room

"Young lady, go back out that door and try that again!" My mom said pointing towards the door. Forgot I was black for a second I guess. slowly I turned around and walked back out the door. Once the door shut I opened it again.

"Hi mom," I said with a fake smile on my face.

"Hi monić, how was your lunch with Aron?" She asked, smiling. She didn't know what had happened and I didn't plan on telling her any time soon.

"As expected" I replied not exactly lying just... leaving a bit out. The bit being me and Aaron aren't friends and that I had used her emergency money to pay for the food Aron was supposed to be paying for. "Oh so good I assume?" She asked, looking at me and I slowly nodded. Ok ok I know that's lying but if there's no proof how would she know?

"So why'd you come in here with a whole attitude then?" My mom asked as she sat her cup of tea down on the coffee table. Why is that any of your business lady I thought to myself but I didn't say that because if I even thought about saying that I'd be dead. "It's just I was tired," I said lying again as I said the first time I know it was lying but if there was no proof how would she know? After a few minutes of intense staring, she finally sighed and patted the seat next to her and I took the hint. "I know you don't want to move with your aunt (then why would you force me to then huh?) but I feel it's best for you."

"Mom I don't wanna be there"

"YOU'RE MOVING THERE IT'S FINAL!" My mom shouted scaring me a little.

"I don't need you worrying about bills or if you're going to eat tonight I don't need you worrying about that. When we get better financially then you can come back but as long as we're in this hole you have to go." My mom said tears were running down her face. "Mom, I'm fine with staying and helping with the bills and with anything you need help with. I'm better here, everyone knows me here. Dad's here" I said crying as well as my mom. I said the last part faintly but my mom still heard me. "Oh, baby." She said putting her hands on my exposed leg. "Trust me, (I did until you arranged for me to move without even telling me but that's beside the point) I miss your dad too. (Yeah so much you remarried his best friend. To me, that seems wrong but hey everyone has different beliefs) I think about him every night and sometimes I even cry (ha yeah you think about him when your new husband is with other girls) and I go to his grave like once a month." Once she saw that it wasn't helping she stopped talking and took her hands off my legs. "That it?" I asked honestly feeling like I was betraying my dad. "Ye-wait do them dishes before you go get too comfortable." My mom said going back to her usual self. "Yeah ok," I said about to go upstairs. "What did you just say?" My mom said disbelief lacing her voice. "I mean yes ma'am," I said mentally slapping myself. "Yeah, that's what I thought." She said and I continued going upstairs so I could change my clothes.

It'd been a week since I had gone to see Aron and since then she hadn't stopped blowing up my phone. She even got jack in on it but he stopped after I sent him a very aggressive voice message. Aron on the other hand had not yet gotten the hint and was still calling and texting me like crazy. And I couldn't block her because then it'd seem suspicious.

In two days I'd be leaving to live with my aunt and my cousins so today was a day of celebration in the words of my mom.

"Monić! Be ready in ten guests are going to start coming soon," my mom screamed from downstairs. I screamed back yes ma'am before I washed.

After I finished washing I looked in my closet to find something wearable. I ended up wearing an orange crop top, a jean jacket, and some ripped denim jeans, and I put on my white Nike airs before I looked in the mirror debating on if I should do some light makeup or none at all. I ended up going with light makeup I put on some mascara to make my eyelashes look long and some nude lipstick. Then I headed downstairs just to be greeted by...
