Vatica's P.O.V-
Josha came through with picking me out a dress for my date with Danny tonight. I wish she could have been here to help me get dressed, but she went to spend time with Barry and his math team, I'm sure she's bored to death having to hear about integers and the Pythagorean theorem.
She picked out a black, velvet dress with string diamonds hanging off the hem, that would cast a hue of colors around me if I stand in the light. It's low cut in the front, which Danny would like, and has spaghetti straps. I paired it with low-heeled black pumps with a crystal bow on top of them. I stuffed my lip gloss, phone, charger, and wallet in the small clutch purse that's been sitting in my closet for way too long.
I look out the window to the pink/yellow sky, the sun is starting to go down, meaning Danny should be here any minute now. He texted me that he was leaving his place 5 minutes ago, it's not that far from here.
I slip out of my room, trying not to be too loud. Most of the girls are already asleep in bed, they were up all night watching Wednesday in the living room, and they couldn't stop watching it.
Before I could take the first step down the stairs, I heard a door creak open at the end of the hall. Darkness pours out of the room, then a person follows.
"Vixen," said Lily, her voice raspy like she just woke up.
"Lily." I nod, pursing my lips.
"Where are you going at this time of night?" I look at her surprised, she's never asked where I was going before, never even cared to ask matter of fact.
"I have a date with Danny."
"Annie's boyfriend?" She snickered.
"He wasn't her boyfriend," I growled.
She holds her hands up, "Just messing with you, it's my favorite pastime."
"I know."
"You look.... decent." She said, taking in my outfit and hair that's wrapped neatly on top of my head, then back at my black pumps.
I try not to show any kind of emotion, "Is that supposed to be a compliment?"
"Coming from me, yes. The only woman that looks stunning to me is now passed out in a bucket of popcorn downstairs."
Ever since we talked about Nadine in her room a couple of days ago, she's been more open about her feelings for her. Just yesterday we were ordering our pirate costumes online and she found a dress that she said would make her jaw drop if Nadine wore it. Or the next day when we were in the kitchen making lunch and Nadine came in, she stared at me the entire time, not daring herself to look in her direction. When Nadine left the kitchen, she let a out huge breath and told me Nadine looked pretty that day, I was confused because she didn't turn around and see what she had on, but she said she didn't need to, Nadine always looks beautiful.
The more time I spend around her, the more she becomes human to me. Yes, she still throws jabs my way, but I think it's just the way she communicates.
"Don't come back too late, I don't want the cops knocking at my door talking about how they found you in a ditch." At that, she shuts her door.
I scurry down the stairs when I hear someone knocking at the front door. I rip it open before anyone wakes up, "Be quiet! The girls are sleeping." I whisper.
"Sorry, I didn't know." I grab one of the girls' jackets from the rack when I felt the strong gust of cold air hit me like a freight train. I quickly wrap it around my shaking body and lock the door.
