"So lemme get this straight, you're not into her yet when you speak to her you're redder than your hair"
Scarlet shoved me, laughing and blushing again at my mockery.
We were 12 years old at this point, both attending the Signal Academy for "Future Huntsman".
We had finished class for the day and were making our way home. The path home was the same as we lived in the same town just on separate ends.
"Look dude she's half my height and is more invested in weapons than people, no way I like her like that" Scarlet retorted, however as he says it I notice him running a hand through his long wavy red hair.
He had let it grow out again, it was pretty much going past his eyes at this point.
If anyone saw him they would think Scarlet Fenix is the most Emo kid alive.
Black baggy pants, a white shirt, and his favorite black leather jacket. No matter the weather he wore that jacket. The same went for the black bandanna around his neck, with the custom crucifix mark of his family printed on it.
His red hair stood out more than anything matching the scarlet eyes that earned his name.
"Mhmm" I mock, "yet she was staring back at you the moment you turned away"
"Really?! Why didn't you say... OH YOU BITCH"
I laugh, knowing I had won this exchange
"Well what about you and that Faunus girl huh, saw you two chatting it up," Scarlet says with a smug look.
"Yeah right, my dad wouldn't approve" I retorted.
I love my father, he was a good man overall.
Both he and his mother treated me well, hell they spoiled me. Marcus and Caitlin Shadow had given birth to a single child after many failed attempts. I would grow into a tall lanky young lad with messy brown hair and hazel eyes. Today I was wearing a blue shirt and black pants wishing I had brought my trusty cloak to keep me warm.
"True", Scarlet replied deep in thought "He's never really been a Faunus fan has he"
"Well he's been doing these anti-Faunus rights rallies for years but then again, the last few months he's taken a break, maybe he's had a change of heart" I replied.
It was true, he used to attend them weekly but I guess things change over time.
I shivered, the cold winter air in the forest at this time of the year was terrible.
A small glow followed by warmth appears at my side.
Scarlet's semblance, is the ability to produce and control flames. He was learning slowly to use it but it was a powerful gift that would take him many years to learn to control entirely. "Don't worry, maybe your semblance will warm you up or maybe it will give you the ability to not be a prick" jokes Scarlet. I still haven't discovered mine yet.
I nod my thanks as we keep walking the path down until we finally reach our crossroads. I gave my farewell to my best friend and headed left home.
My semblance.
I have no clue what it could be.
My father had the power to charge energy using his nervous system. This was great if he wanted to power our house for free but not to fight the monsters of Grimm.
My mother had the power to increase the shadows around her, making them darker and easier to hide in, however, she rarely needed to use it. Our town after all was protected by a huntsman.
Oh well I thought, I will be grateful to even obtain one. With that thought, I continued my trek home.

Something was wrong.
The house was too quiet. No smoke came out of the chimney which usually would have a lit flame at the bottom, especially in this cold weather. I couldn't see any lighting in the house even when I knew my parents would be home today.
I approached the entrance of my home. The front door was open and ajar as if someone had entered and not bothered to shut it.
I slowly entered, cautious of my surroundings. No one was in the main hall or the kitchen.
Maybe they had gone for a walk? "Mum?" I called out.
No answer
I turned towards the living room door, maybe they had fallen asleep on the couch?
I slowly opened the door, only for it to be yanked open by someone on the other side.
I stumbled through falling face-first. A large weight pinned me to the ground and I turned to see a Faunus male wearing white clothing and a red and white mask. Oh no.
The insignia on his clothing was that of the White Fang. A group of Faunus, initially a peaceful rally group turned terrorist organization by their leaders. Also, the group that hated my father most.
The Faunus male tied my hands even while I struggled beneath his weight.
"Let go of me, you bastard!" I snarled at him.
He chuckled before taping my mouth with a black roll of tape. He then dragged me out to the backyard where a hellish sight was held.
My mother was on the floor bleeding from a large gash on her side surrounded by four white fang members. She was battered and bruised all over, her black hair mixed with patches of blood. Tears ran down her face and her eyes widened with fear at the sight of me. My father was also near, tied to a wooden chair also battered and bruised. They had been torturing him.
The male dragging me threw me next to my mother. I tried crawling toward her but a male with a scar on his face stepped forward and kicked me back.
"That's enough, he's just a child" Snapped my father, actual fear coating his face.
"Is that what you said when you told the people in your speech and degraded our kind" a smooth voice behind him replied.
He was a tall young man, with red hair, scales ran down his neck showing his Faunus traits.
He wore a black suit that had red roses entwined down the side, almost like a blood stain splattered on him. His mask only covered half his face and his pale skin shone in the dusk light.
"They have nothing to do with this," my father said "Let them go"
"My people have suffered from your words" the red-haired male snarled "So you will suffer from my actions". With that, he nodded at the scared male closest to my mother.
Nodding in reply he took a step forward pulling a large blade from his side and grabbed my mother's hair lifting her up.
She began to sob hard in pain and fear. My heart raced and I writhed on the ground held still by the male who had dragged me out.
"This is revenge for our pain," Scarface said and proceeded to decapitate my mother's head clean off.
I roared in pain and grief, the sound muffled by the tape, tears running down my face.
My father sat there stunned, before yelling at the top of his lungs "YOU BASTARDS I WILL KILL YOU ALL".
The Red-haired male chuckled "Oh I don't think you will '' as he pulled a large blood-red katana out and slammed it home into my father's chest.
I felt my chest cleave open as I watched my father gasp and blood spew out his mouth and chest. Before he faded he turned and faced me and tried to say something only for the blood in his throat to cut his words.
I screamed or tried to. The red-haired one looked at me and then at the others. "Clean this mess up, and kill the boy," he said as a car pulled into the yard.
He hopped in and it drove him away. Leaving me and the five over males in this hell.
My parents were murdered. My father, trying to repair his mistakes, executed. My mother, innocent and pure, a kindred soul. Treated like a slab of meat in a butcher.
And I was next.
"On your feet runt," Scar-face said.
I didn't care, the rage building in me, these bastards they will pay! I could feel my anger charging up and up and as Scar-Face reached for me I unleashed hell.

Scarlet was gonna be late. He had stopped by the local diner, not far from Lumen's house, to grab a bite. Mum would probably kill him for eating before dinner but he will still get a good feed again. The thought had his stomach growling again and he chuckled.
He took another two steps when he heard a massive explosion sound. Scarlet twirled around to see a large red bolt of energy blast into the sky like a pyre of light.
The direction it came from. It was Lumen's house.
He didn't hesitate for a second as he sprinted back the way he came to his friend's house.

I was death incarnate. Pure rage and anger flowed through me. I would tear them apart, limb from limb. I did just that, grabbing Scar-Face by his hair, the same way he had done to my mother, and ripping his head clean off his shoulders. The other males stood still, frozen in fear.
I did not care. They were next.
Using the red rage energy that was flowing through me I swiftly appeared next to the furthest male. He leaped back falling flat on his ass. I leaped on him, not allowing him to stand, and started pummeling his face in, blood flying everywhere as he screamed in pain.
The other White Fang males watched in horror.
Two of them tried running and another tried attacking me from behind.
All of them died within seconds of each other.
The one attacking me was next, I turned around directing an arm at him and a bolt of that red rage energy was sent out of my hand and straight through his chest killing him instantly.
I noticed the other cowards running. But I stood up from the pummeled dying corpse and found myself in front of them. The energy in me made me so fast that it only took a second to cover the distance and snap both their necks.
I turned and faced the last male. He drew his blade shaking in fear "What the hell are you" he whispered.
I roared at him in rage and grief before tackling him and slamming us into the wall of my house.
A large charge of energy exploded out of me destroying the house, launching timber everywhere, and annihilating the man I held on to.
I stood up, blood, fire, and destruction surrounding me.
The energy and rage still inside of me grew by the second. A blood lust I never knew craving more death.
"Lumen?"
I spun around snarling at the voice only to stop. Scarlet stood there with a horrified look as he took the sight of me and all the destruction around us.
The fear on his face snapped something inside of me. All that energy and rage died and I felt lightheaded.
"Scarlet help" I gasped as I collapsed and the world went black.
