"How long has it been?" Rosina asked. She and her fellow heroines were still following the golden feather, and Rosina could not help but feel that this was getting rather monotonous.
"I do not know, but I have a vague feeling that we are close," replied Anna.
"You have had that vague feeling for the past thirty minutes at least," Petra remarked, in a tone of extreme bitterness.
They were currently on the outskirts of town, not far from the Enchanted Forest. Animals grazed on vast fields of grass. Buildings were scarce, except for farmhouses and barns.
The feather, which was a few yards ahead of our dear damsels, paused in front of a little cottage. It then descended gently, swaying from side to side before finally resting on the ground.
"I suppose the witch is in there," Rosina said.
"Did I not say that we were close?" Anna's lips curved in triumph. "Of a truth, though I am not always right, I am never wrong."
An emphatic hmph was all that Petra bothered to utter.
"This looks just like any other regular cottage," Sophia said.
"One would never imagine that this was the abode of such an evil witch," Rosina said.
"Do you suppose we ought to knock?" Anna asked. She was in front of the door.
"Out of the way!" Petra growled.
Startled, Anna stepped to the side. Petra then came forward and knocked in the special way that only creditors do.
Boom, boom, boom, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.
"Is that not a bit excessive?" Sophia asked.
Petra did not deign to make a reply.
"Whatever is the matter?!" said a voice from within the cottage.
The door opened, revealing the old witch. She was wearing an apron which was stained with flour, and she seemed rather flustered. "What do you girls want?"
