The articles about the game yesterday had already hit headlines and within a couple of hours, my name along with my highlights from the game was posted on all the sports social media platforms. The praise felt nice and a little overwhelming at first especially since it was a team effort but only my name is mentioned in the articles. I'd never say this aloud but if anything Jaylen's name should've been mentioned more than mine because he was putting in a lot of the work out there too. He's really good and though I'd rather eat a jean jacket than tell him that to his face, his talent on the field is undeniable now that I've seen it firsthand. He seemed like an actual captain, leading the team and creating plans to secure the win. It was a completely different side of him that I'd never seen before. It caught me so off guard.
"You did really good out there Cassian I'm really proud of you," my father compliment me over the phone. It's not too often I hear those words from him so I cherish them deeply, a small grin stretching across my lips as I walked around my dorm. "I know those jokers at your old school really regret letting you leave now. Good, they didn't deserve you, deserve your talent."
I exhaled a low breath as I make my way to the fridge not really knowing what to say next. "Yeah . . . I guess."
My father chuckles to himself lowly, before asking "Cassian, what else have you been getting into down there at that school?" I paused in my steps, brows raising as if he can see me.
"What do you mean?" I questioned, a million thoughts running through my head at the moment, but one thought in particular with a Korean boy seemed to linger the most. There's no way he could know, could he? How would he react? Will he be mad? Will he think less of me?
"I mean what else are you getting into? I know soccer and workouts can't be taking up that much of your time. You join any extracurriculars?"
I exhaled a breath I didn't even realize I was holding. "N-no I haven't joined anything. I figured soccer was enough." I tell him as I reach into the fridge and grabbed a bottled water.
"Oh well if you want you should try getting to know some of the Zeta Alphas boys at your school. I know they have some." I could picture him shrugging at his own words so easily like it was nothing.
