Superstition

I walked into the scrub room. Meredith and Addison had already started scrubbing in.

"Sorry, I had to wait for handover in Peds," I said.

"Scrub in so we can start," Addison said. I started scrubbing in. We got into surgery. We were operating when a blood vessel burst and she started flatlining. After we couldn't get her back Addison removed her mask.

"Call it, Grey," Addison said.

"Time of death 8:17," Meredith said. We walked back to the scrub room.

Timeskip

All of the interns were in the locker room changing into fresh scrubs.

"Alex, do you have a fresh undershirt?" I asked. He tossed me a shirt. "Thank you,"

"There's a stack of your clothes in my locker," Alex said.

"Four surgeries, four fatalities and the day has barely started," George said before turning to Cristina who was eating a snack bar. "Can I have a bite of that?" He asked.

"No. You're in my apartment, you don't get to be in my food," Cristina said.

"Dr Burke gave me a protein bar, this morning," George said.

"Burke packs his lunch for him. Did I mention?" Cristina asked. I handed George a sandwich.

"Thanks," George said.

"Anyone else hungry?" I asked. Alex walked over and opened my locker.

"Did Walker make these?" Alex asked.

"Yeah," I said. Alex grabbed a sandwich.

"I talked to the morgue guy this morning," Izzie said.

"The one with the unibrow?" Meredith asked.

"The one with the like teeth thing. And he said that surgical fatalities come in threes and sevens. Says there'll be three more before midnight," Izzie said.

"Well, ok then. Since "dead tooth" morgue guy said so," Cristina mocked.

"He's the morgue guy. He knows things about death," Izzie said.

"It's a superstition," I said.

"Come on," Dr Bailey said walking in.

"Where?" Meredith asked.

"ER," Dr Bailey said.

"All of us?" George asked.

"We've all had deaths. Let's all go save a life," Dr Bailey said. We all walked out past the nurses' station. Addison stopped us.

"Uh, Dr Bailey. Here you go," Addison handed Dr Bailey a cup.

"What's this?" Dr Bailey asked.

"Hot cocoa. It's a little ritual we had in New York. Four surgeries, four deaths, I figure we could all use a little good juju," Addison said.

"And cocoa equals juju how?" Dr Bailey asked.

"Hey, hey, hey. Don't question the cocoa," Addison said. "Meredith. Dakota. Thank you for your help this morning," Addison handed us each a cup.

"Oh. Thank you, Addison," Meredith said.

"Yeah. Thank you," Addison smiled.

"Thanks," I said. "We should go before Bailey comes back," We walked down to the ER. It was empty.

"Great. No blood, no guts, no lives to save. It's dead quiet," Cristina said. We all looked at her.

"Did you really just say that?" Dr Bailey asked.
