My Regulus

The troughs have been necessary, I know;
But I hate that the sun set on us-
There we had stood being stared at by a crow,
Yes the endings hurt, but we didn't have a start, so why am I crushed?

Always it was I who lingered, when so easily you moved past-
So insignificant in your eyes, my love felt like farce.
Your words poison Ivy, they were rare and a facade;
I had thought of you my saviour, yet you held the blade.

Never more have I questioned my worth, not like this-
Love is meant to calm I'm told, yet this feels anything but.
It's chaos, confusion, and I know all of It's my fault-
I drew up fantasies of us, and you were nothing like my prince.

The irrevocable guilt of wanting you has kept us apart,
I'm aware you'll never reciprocate, but you're still the king of my heart.
