goodnight, john boy

Ciaran knocks softly on the door of Remy and Lena's room. His head bent forward, hair falling in waves over his eyes.

Lena opens the door in a pair of sweatpants and an oversized tee-shirt.

"Can we talk?" asks Ciaran.

"What does he want?" huffs Remy.

"Rem, stop it. He's been amazing this whole time; quit it," says Lena to Remy over her shoulder. She turns to Ciaran, takes his hand, and eases him into the room.

"Remmiah, I mean no harm to you and yours. In fact, I want to talk about the future," says Ciaran. He presses his hands together in front of him. "I have searched for those like me for a century, and now I have found not one, but two like me. I also spoke up for Lena, and for all intents and purposes, the Rom consider me her chosen mate."

Remy growls and stands from the edge of the bed. Hands flex at her sides.

"Remy!" chides Lena. "I am Alpha. I am going to have to—put in some appearances. He's not offering to knock me up!" Lena turns to Ciaran, her dark hair a curtain around her face. "You aren't, right?"

Ciaran shakes his head.

"Not in the least. I am offering you my continued support. The next few months will be tricky; it will require that you are vigilant at all times," says Ciaran.

"I can protect her," hisses Remy, moving towards Ciaran.

"I never thought you couldn't. I am not talking about physical threats, but about the threat to her reign. She will not have a child, which is fine in many ways; there have been Alpha's that do not. However, putting up a good front and being united will matter," says Ciaran.

Lena turns and hugs Remy, burying her face into Remy's neck, kissing the silky flesh. She looks up at Remy, whose violet eyes are bright.

"He is right, Rem. He is an asset," says Lena.

"I also," says Ciaran softly. "Have my eye on someone else."

Lena turns, brow furrows, tilting her head.

"Oh!" exclaims Lena, dark eyes wide.

"Oh?" asks Remy.

"Dominic," says Ciaran, his hands sliding into his pockets. "I have not made any advances, but I do like him greatly. While I might well have enjoyed tumbling in your bed, Lena Roma, I know your heart is hers."

Remy feels the deep laugh rumble in her chest, and then she smiles, fangs peek from behind her cotton candy-colored lips.

"Oh please, then do stay!" says Remy, now roaring with laughter. "Papa and Mama are going to love this!"

Lena wipes her hand over her mouth, covering the smile. Then she extends the same hand to Ciaran. He takes it.

"You are my mate of choice to present to the public. In my bed, I will host Remy, and you can—well, you can do whoever you like," says Lena, her tone more formal.

Ciaran kisses the back of her hand, then steps around her and crouches next to the bed that Remy is sprawled on.

"Ally?" asks Ciaran.

Remy rolls to her side, regarding him. They share the same colored eyes, his hair the color of snow. She relents and nods. Shooting her hand out.

"You got it, but don't kiss my hand," says Remy.
