Change of POV
I hung up the phone feeling even more exhausted than before. Katherine's father was almost as crazy as his daughter. Whenever she made her surprise visits King Valeer had to check-up on her and offer almost everything he had in the castle to maintain our positive relationship. I sense that he had some deeper intentions, and they were poorly veiled. I am fairly certain that he is anticipating our engagement. The idea made me shudder. She was more like an irritating sister I couldn't stand than a possible spouse.
Suddenly the image of my human's smile came to mind. If I were to choose a spouse, I'd want someone who was straightforward and honest. She would expect nothing from me, and behave independently. At the same time, she would desire me more than any other and never betray me. Katherine was not any of these things. She was trouble with a capital T, and now I had to go have a "fun" gathering with her.
I sighed as I trudged my way towards Fidestro's. The only highlight will be seeing my human in a swimsuit. I stopped as I saw Mary standing outside the pink door.
"Mary?" I asked confused.
"Master Hendrix! That was a quick call," Mary said surprised.
"I've learned over the years how to keep those calls brief. Why are you out here?"
Mary rolled her eyes. "The great designer Fidestro said that I would ruin his flow. Something about making the human tense."
"Well artists can be strange at times. Will they be finished soon?"
"I imagine so... Actually, this may be a good opportunity to talk with you about your current situation," Mary said above a whisper.
"What have you found out?"
"Well, there are no cases in all the databases I searched about a vampire only being able to drink a single person's blood. There are no illnesses that I can find that would alter a vampire's tastes as well. I've even contacted experts in this field under an alias, and nothing came up. They thought I was pranking them once they got the whole story."
"So, we are no closer to finding an answer..." I mumbled. With how much enjoyment I have been getting out of my human, I had not been too troubled with only being able to drink her blood. She was never too far, and I didn't get hungry often enough or severe enough that she couldn't meet my needs alone. Her blood was still by far the best thing I've ever tasted, and I haven't felt so energized in years. If I were honest with myself, I see no problems with the current situation. However, this would be the equivalence of marrying myself to this human. If no solution was found, I would have to keep my human for the rest of my days. She would have to travel with me everywhere and become a constant companion in case I had to drink the blood of others for bureaucracy—just as I had done earlier today. That was a commitment that I was unwilling to make.
"That is not entirely true. We have ruled out physical and phycological causes. This means that the dependency to this human's blood has to be tied to magic somehow," Mary said hopefully.
"She's a human, Mary. She doesn't have magic."
Mary paused and seemed perplexed. "That is true, but there have been some unique occurrences involving this human. The Angel's Heart, the dryad, and now..." Mary glanced at my pocket where the Gem of Heaven was currently residing.
"We hardly know anything about this Gem of Heaven. But I do agree that there is something strange with the Angel's Heart. Not only does she have a way with the flower, she is growing twenty-four new ones in my garden as we speak." Mary gaped and was speechless. "I picked Stanley's brain on the topic, and he proved to be a well of information. Apparently, Angel's Hearts can only grow and flourish on angel blessed land. But they are growing and flourishing on my land. I don't remember hosting any angels."
