"How was your first day?" Doctor Kai asked as he drove down the road. After I finished from the bathroom, we went to the car and started driving to his house.
"It was good" I said
"Are you enjoying the town so far?" he asked
"I mean it's fine. I do prefer the city but I'm just here temporarily" I said
"Really? Are you planning on going back to the city?" he asked
"Hopefully, I'm just here to rebuild my career again," I said
"Oh did something happen?" he asked slowly and cautiously
"Just took three years break" I shrugged,
"I mean I can't imagine dealing with dead bodies every day. I would probably need a break" Doctor Kai said
"I honestly don't mind," I said
"Is there a specific reason why you became a pathologist?" he said
"I'm just interested in giving family members closure after a loss of a loved one," I said, "What about you? Why did you specialise in Obstetrician?"
"I love children and I wanted to make sure they are welcomed when they come into this world." Doctor Kai said, I looked at him and couldn't help but feel intrigued. I never met a man who was interested in children to the point they want it a career about children
"That's nice. Is Kian your only child?" I asked, I glazed back to see Kian looking out of the window as he sat quietly in his child car seat with his seat belt on. The sight of Kian made a heavy weight subtle on my stomach.
He is lucky to have a father that cares about him
"Yeah. I actually adopted him two years ago" Doctor Kai said, making my body go still.
No wonder Kian looks nothing like Doctor Kai.
"That is sweet of you" I said "How did you manage to adopt him?"
"It was surprisingly an easy process, he was actually left behind in the hospital two years ago. Poor child he was only around a year and a half, he was so terrified" Doctor Kai said "So I decided to adopt him. I didn't want him to feel unwanted in this world"
"Was it hard for you to raise a child that is not your own?" I asked as I felt my throat tighten, feeling bad for Kian
"At first, yes, because I literally became a father overnight. I didn't have the nine month mental preparation of becoming a father. But also Kian has really struggled mentally since he was young. He was diagnosed with PTSD around three years old" Doctor Kai said making my heart ache

"What were the symptoms? Like how did you find out?" I asked. Doctor Kai thought for a moment before speaking up
