So, for those that don't know, before the British, the Dutch owned New York, and it was called New Amsterdam (i think), so I headcanon that the Republic of the United Netherlands (we'll just say Netherlands-) was New York's father. He was killed by Great Britain when he took over New Amsterdam, now calling him New York. New Amsterdam, (now New York) was taken by the British, and Great Britain claimed to be his new father. He wasn't a good "father" tho.
