𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒊. orpheus and eurydice

🥀 ( the myth of o & e. ) 🥀

❝ After the untimely death of Orpheus' wife Eurydice, who had been returning home from the forest, he is overwhelmed by grief for his deceased wife.

Orpheus, the son of Apollo, was overcome with sorrow and ventured down to the underworld to retrieve her. Touched by Orpheus' music and love for Eurydice, Hades and Persephone agree to pardon Eurydice from the underworld under the condition that whilst returning to the surface, Orpheus will not look behind him to see if his wife is truly there.

However, in all retellings of the myth, wether struck by doubt or love, Orpheus turns to look back at his wife, only to be met with her gaze of forgiveness as she was dragged back down into the land of the dead. Unable to venture back to the underworld, Orpheus spent the rest of his life in mourning, waiting for the day they would be reunited in death. ❞
