The Wedding

Edward and Bella's wedding was coming up. After the fight against the newborns, we all needed brightness in our lives. We were all very excited for Edward and Bella to finally get married. Alice declared herself the wedding planner and quickly got to work on preparations for the ceremony.
We would use our large backyard as the venue for the wedding. I was happy for my brother, and he deserved love.
Bella wanted me to be her maid of honor because I was Edward's biological sister, and we had become close friends. I gladly accepted the request.
A few days before the wedding, I was helping Bella break into her white diamond shoes for the big day. She was getting frustrated with herself for being unable to walk in the high-heeled shoes.
"These shoes feel like torture devices," Bella grunted. She sat down on the couch and took the footwear off. "It seems like it," I chuckled. I sat on the couch with her, "In my day, the highest-heeled shoes we had were two and a half inches, and now I see women wearing seven-inch heels, and I think they're crazy for enduring that." I just realized I sounded like a grandmother recalling the old days, and I laughed. "I just aged myself," I said to myself. Bella laughed, "You're not that old." We both laughed at her joke.

To change the subject, I looked at Bella and smiled, "I'm happy for you and Edward. You're going to marry a wonderful man." "Thank you, it means a lot to hear you say that," Bella replied gratefully. "Of course." We were quiet for a few minutes. "Lilly, what was it like for you to become a vampire? Edward told me about your experience with the Spanish Influenza, but what was it like for you?" she wanted to know. She was the most curious human I'd ever known.
"It was terrifying. Edward and I had to fend for ourselves, and the Spanish Influenza pandemic was nothing to sneeze at. It especially wasn't easy for us teenagers to deal with because we had to grow up way too soon while our parents were in the hospital. We didn't know it was the last time we would see them." I was taken back to 1918 in an instant. Hearing the screams of those losing their loved ones

"I begged Carlisle to save my brother, and as a result, he saved both of us per the wishes of our mother, Elizabeth. That's where my middle name comes from." I told Bella. I continued with my story, "I don't know how many days passed after Edward, and I fell unconscious, but I was relieved after I woke up and saw that he was okay. He was the only biological family I had left." I sighed, "It was wonderful after the rest of the adopted family came into the picture, and I learned to accept life as a vampire, but I was restless in wanting to live as normally as the circumstances would allow." I smiled at my future sister-in-law, "Don't take your human moments for granted, Bella. They're more precious than you think. The rest of the family and I will respect your decision to become one of us, but keep what I said in mind."

"Thanks for sharing that with me, Lilly. Now it makes sense why Edward was so against it at first; he doesn't want me to go through the same pain he did." Bella came to the realization. I nodded, "Exactly, it's because he loves you so much. Edward may be stubborn, but he has a good heart. He referred to you as the light in the darkness he's endured. He calls you his angel." I was referring to the conversation he and I had a few days earlier when he told me he proposed to her. "That's sweet of him," she replied bashfully. It was nice to have a sisterly moment with Bella. She was a very kind person and curious about the world, more specifically, the vampire world. The wedding was tomorrow, and she would officially be part of the family. I was happy my brother had found his other half.

Tomorrow, we will celebrate the love between a human and a vampire.

The day finally arrived. Edward and Bella were to be married. The backyard of our house looked breathtaking. Alice kept asking if it was too much, while others thought so. I thought it was perfect for my brother and his bride-to-be. When Edward and I were dying of the Spanish Influenza, I thought we would never live to see one another get married and start a family. Well, the odds were in our favor.
