Knock, knock knock.

Phil groggily got up from his bed to open the door. He had wasted his entire day yesterday lounging in bed as Diego had insisted since he saw how weak he still was in terms of exhaustion and he told the other about his plans to go mining the next day and decided to come with him as company to which he agreed to.

Phil opened the door, not minding to hide his wings since he knows it's Diego. He opened the door to see the other, smiling as he saw the door open and seeing Phil's face slowly reveal itself from behind the wooden door. He had carried a pickaxe, an iron one, on his belt. A sling bag was around him and he still had his bow and arrows slung around at his back.

"Good morning Diego." Phil greeted.

"Good morning Phil! Did you just wake up? Your hair seems all messy and you're just in your normal robes!" Diego exclaimed.

"Mhm, 'm sorry mate, I'll get ready real quick." Phil said, yawning.

"No need to rush! I understand you still might be exhausted." Diego replied.

Phil had left the door open for Diego to follow him inside. The other closed the door and just stood there as he watched Phil put on his coat and get his bucket hat striped with green and white. He watched Phil open his chest getting an iron pickaxe as well and an iron sword, follow along with some food and torches. It all seemed to have just magically vanished into thin air, it was the work of the inventory, one of the many talents the special ones have. Diego couldn't help but stare in awe of seeing this talent in the flesh, right in front of him. It was unreal, how he envied to have that ability.

Phil turned around just to see the other staring in awe. He could feel his gaze, it wasn't a piercing one. Just a genuine one filled with interest and joy. Phil couldn't help but chuckle.

"What are ya starin' at me?" He asked.

"Your inventory skill! I never thought I'd see it be used!" Diego replied ecstatically.

"It's that amazing, huh." Phil said walking towards the door.

Diego stood beside him. "Of course it is! It's so useful especially for merchants and hunters...it must be so nice not having to carry an entire boar back to the village." The other exclaimed.

Phil opened the door, he lightly chuckled at the other's enthusiasm over his skills as he stepped out. Feeling the breeze he hasn't felt since yesterday hit him. The fresh smell on the greenery around him entered his nose. He forgot how nice it was out here in just a short time, is he really that old? Phil snickered at the thought. Everyone back at home had told him he's very old.

 Everyone at home.

He thought. He missed them even more now.

Diego seemed to have caught on Phil's dreariness miraculously. He remembered how he must be feeling sad that he's the only one of his kind here and decides to give him a light pat on the back.

Phil snapped out of his thoughts and turned to his side to see Diego smiling at him. What a nice smile, Phil thought. Reminded him that he isn't that alone here anymore, there's someone to keep him company at least.

"Sorry for stalling, let's get moving." Phil said, huffing.

"I know a cave nearby, the villagers use it to!" Diego exclaimed happily.

"Lead the way then." Phil smiled.

Diego started walking into the forest, descending down the mountain. It was a bit quiet, with only the natural sounds of the bugs in their ears and the sound of the wind swaying the trees. Phil didn't like this silence, he felt as if this was too awkward for him, he could tell Diego felt the same. This was both their first time traveling with someone else. Phil decided to start up some friendly conversation.

"So you're a scout right?" Phil asked.

"I am! From the village down there." Diego replied happily.

"You look so young though. Just how old are you? If you don't mind."

"I'm actually 17. Some say I have a baby face, you know 17 is the ripe age for becoming a scout, at least that's what they told me." Diego giggled.

He's 17? Could have sworn he looked younger and way nicer than Tommy, they're about the same age. He snickered at the thought again. Until the thought about Tommy became more painful to him. He could not hear his voice right now, not the annoying voice that he loved to hear.

"I'm actually used to being alone." Diego spoke out of nowhere.

He noticed how Phil seemed to be spacing out again and he thought once more it's because he was thinking about he was the only one of his kind and being lonely. So maybe talking about his own experiences and providing advice and comfort can help him.

"It's a bit scary at first but you learn to appreciate the silence." Diego huffed. "But it's good for a change, for you to be here. To end the silence, and maybe I can end yours as well. You know, lonely buddies!" He exclaimed, with a seemingly bigger and a more brighter smile on his face.

Phil chuckled. He loved the presence of Diego. He's as warm as the sun, he thinks. He's very mature for his age, compared to the other 17 year olds he has encountered. And his words are so nice to hear. Phil thinks this is just what he needed to hear after spending his first few days alone, lamenting on why he chose to leave but at the same time he was glad to do something to save them.

"We're getting closer!" Diego exclaimed as the forest seemed to have gotten thinner, less trees around the area and the grass wasn't a bright green, it was starting to become a brown color, soil.

"We're finally here!" He announced happily.

The place they had stopped by was a large gaping hole into the mountain, it was lit up by torches filled with wooden planks and rail road tracks that seemed to transport some materials back and forth into the mines. Some people were outside too, some small with long beards and some taller.

So this is a functioning mine huh.
