Elizabeth POV:

The senator's funeral is today. I woke up as soon as the sun was up, I did some work, filled up some files and by 12:00 I got ready and went down stairs.

My car wasn't working so I had to take a cab, the cab driver left me in a coffee shop close to the cemetery.

The funeral started at 9 am and it was only 7:45. The weather wasn't so nice, it was cold and it looked like it wanted to rain. I went inside to grab a coffee, while I was ordering a man with a long black coat walked in, it was Bruce.

"That would be 4.50" said the cashier.

I paid him and went to sit on one of the sofas that were there,

"hey" said bruce

"Are you following me?" i asked joking

"Why do you want me too? said bruce

"Are you here for the funeral?" he asked while changing subject

"Here's your coffee, enjoy," said the waitress while putting the coffee on the table.

"thanks" I said

"yes, i'm here for the funeral" i said to bruce while taking a sip of my coffee

"I came to pay my respects" i applied

"me too, alfred insisted that i come, i don't like funerals" said bruce

we both laugh

"Is there a reason why?" i asked

"My grandfather died when I was 7. He was really special to me and 3 years later both of my parents died. I lost three of the most important people in my life. I just thought funerals were a way to say goodbye forever, and i didnt want to do that. Plus funerals make me uncomfortable" said bruce

"Oh sorry to hear that" i said

An awkward silence blew between us, I felt his hurt, I can't imagine someone living without their parents.

"What about you?"asked bruce

"my mom died when i was 12, it was really hard losing her, i really miss her, and my relationship with my dad, well it's complicated" i said

"Do you talk to him a lot?" he asked

"Not much, he's been busy" i said

We kept talking about life and other things, we got to know each other more, I really enjoyed talking to him.

"Its 1:45, we should get going" said bruce

We stood up and left the coffee shop, we got to the church just in time, The funeral was just starting, Bruce and i sat down together, the priest started talking, i could see the senators family in the first row, his wife and his 3 kids were crying, i looked over to bruce, i could see he was looking at them too, more specifically he was staring at the senator older son Michael, Bruce looked at him with sadness as if he knew what Michael was going thru i was sad for both of them i know what it feels like to lose someone.

Few hours later everyone was heading out to the cemetery. The cemetery was really close to the church, so everyone just walked there, the family was standing next to the coffin saying their goodbyes. Bruce and i went up the family to pay our respects

"I'm sorry for your loss" i said to the senator wife and kids

Bruce said the same.

He approached to Mikeal

"Everything is going to be okay, you're a tough guy," said Bruce with a comfortable smile.

Just when the funeral was finishing, drops of rain were falling, everyone pulled out their umbrellas except Bruce and I. We didn't have one. It started to rain harder in a second and we were getting wet, Bruce took his jacket off and put it in our heads.

"Come on, lets go" yelled bruce

I ran next to him so I wouldn't get wet, we got to his car and he opened the door for me.

"Do you want a jacket" said bruce while getting in the car

"Yes please" i said with a shaky voice

He grabbed a jacket that was in the back seat and gave it to me. He looked at me while I was putting it on, and we stared at each other for a moment.

"Do you want to come over for dinner? Alfred is cooking tonight he's a great cook" he said with a smile.

"I'd love to" i said smiling back
