Ayumi's POV
"You said her name, then you passed out. I know you are busy but you should make time for your girlfriend. Bye."
He didn't respond and just stared at me.
I got in my car-
"Is Minhye the girlfriend who died?" I whispered to myself
I took a glance of Hyunjin who is standing in front of his car, and I drove away.
Asking him about it wasn't a good idea. I know I am rude to him but I don't want to disrespect whatever his past is. And I don't think we are that close for me to ask.
As I arrived home, Young Woo was in the dining table and he was doing something on his computer and seems to be panicking.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. I was wondering if you could pick up Dal?" Young Woo asked
"Why me?"
"I just have things to finish and this needs to be pass tonight." he said while focusing on whatever he is doing
"Okay." I answered and got out of the house
Without hesitation, I drove to Hyunjin's house where Dal is. I don't want to go there as much as possible to avoid any contact with Hyunjin and his family, but here I am driving to his house.
I arrived there, and found Dal watching some cartoons with Hyunjin's grandfather. They were eating a lot of food which I think was prepared by Hyunjin's grandfather.
"Ayumi. Are you here to pick up Dal?" he asked
"Yes, sir-"
"You can call me grandpa. Sir is not allowed here." he smiled at me
"Right! You should call him grandpa!" Dal happily said
He seems to be enjoying the company of Hyunjin's grandfather, but as a promise I have to find a babysitter as soon as possible.
"Ah! I cooked a lot of food, you should eat here and bring your brother some. Hyunjin and I can't finish all of it." grandfather said and hurriedly went to the dining table
I sat beside Dal, "Did you behave while you are here?"
He smiled and nodded.
"Hmm... How am I supposed to believe you?"
"They said if I lie my nose will go long." Dal said
I chuckled.
"Ayumi, Dal, food is ready!" grandfather said
We both went to the dining room and saw the food he prepared. We all started eating and talked about random things about school, and stuffs.
"Dal's mom and my brother broke up, and Young Woo doesn't know that he got her pregnant, until Dal's grandmother gave Dal to us when Dal's mom died. We don't know much about him and my brother is worried about Dal."
"That must've been hard for your brother, having all of these kind of responsibilities at a young age. I know someone who is adopted and the family had to adjust because they want him to be comfortable. But that was their mistake. They were walking on egg shells around him. What they should've done was show him what is truth, and be comfortable around him." grandfather said
"So, the kid doesn't know that he is adopted?"
"Yes." grandfather showed a bitter smile
After eating, we went to the living room to talk about a few more things, because Dal wanted to finish the movie.
My eyes wandered around the house and one thing caught my attention for sure.
"Why is Hyunjin's picture not hang on the wall?"
"Ah. He hated being shown to everyone. I mean he doesn't want everyone to see his face hang up on the wall. Other than that, his parents died, and he thought they are the ones who should be remembered by putting their pictures on the wall. He had a pretty rough childhood, losing people around him was hard. He had suffer a lot. I couldn't even talk to him about it." grandfather said
"Maybe that explains why he is so cold."
"Not really. Hyunjin is a very cheerful person not until he lost his parents, his grandmother, and the woman he love. I know he is suffering but I couldn't even do anything. I was trying my best to be there for him. Actually, I am aware that anytime soon I will die. And that worries me a lot." grandfather
"Why's that?"
"If I die, Hyunjin will be left alone. No relatives, only him. Just me living without my child and wife, I am pretty lonely. What more if Hyunjin lost me? He is going to be hurt." grandfather
And that made me silent.
"Except from his friends, I am just thankful that he have a new friend which is you. Besides, your brother treats Hyunjin as his own brother. That's probably why I am just thankful that you are getting along with him." grandfather
If only he knew about how annoyed we are of each other.
"If I die, I am sure you will be the person he will run to." he smiled at me
After talking, I have decided to leave because Dal fell asleep, so I had to carry him to the car. As I put him inside the car, someone parked their car beside mine.
"You're bringing Dal home?" Hyunjin asked as he saw me
"Obviously-" I stopped when I saw his eyes
He ignored me.
"You okay?"
Hyunjin just nodded.
I went back to the door to take Dal's things and was about to get in my car-
"Ayumi." he called
"What? Are you going to annoy me?"
He looked away.
"What is it?"
"Do you have some time?" he asked
"Yes, but my time is precious and it will cost a lot."
And there I knew, his grandfather was right.
