"I can do this. I can do this." I kept chanting quietly as I paced back and forth on Eleanor's porch, debating whether I should knock or just go and tell Eleanor I got sick and couldn't make it. But I know that would make me look very bad in front of her parents, especially her dad. Oh, shit. I have to do this.

"Well don't you look handsome." Eleanor's beautiful voice startled me as I saw her open the door. Had I just- Dammit, I unconciously knocked on the door! Well, no going back now! "Who did your hair?" she asked as she looked up at me with a teethy smile as she played with my collar, I looked down and smiled

"Aunt Jess." I muttered and I heard her giggle softly as her hand slipped in mine, which instantly calmed my nerves slightly

"You're adorable." she cooed into my ear as she kissed my cheek before leading me inside. This was the first time I had ever been in her house, I had only been in her room a couple times before.

"Is that him?" a woman's cheery voice said as we made out way to what I presumed was the kitchen "Oh! David, put that knife away!" she scolded and I immediately halted, looking at Eleanor with wide eyes "I'm Amelia, Eleanor's mother!" the woman said as she made her way towards me with a welcoming smile, she had Eleanor's blonde hair, but her eyes were brown. I'm guessing she had her dad's eyes, but I didn't dare look his way "Well, aren't you a handsome young man!" she exclaimed as she shook hands with me, I sent her a tight smile "David, come on!" she urged her husband "Set that knife down! Can't you see the boy's already nervous as it is?!" she scolded and I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from surpressing a smile at her husband's reaction

"What is your name, boy?" his voice startled me, it was deep and 'fatherly'

"Lucas Anderson, sir." I said as I slowly shook his hand, his grip tighter tan I would've liked

"It's nice to meet you, Lucas" he said and I half-smiled down at him since he was slightly shorter than me, but still no less intimidating "But I won't expect you back anytime, soon." Oh, dear God.

"How are your grades, Lucas?" Eleanor's father asked as he twirled his fork around his pasta so he could eat it more easily, I rubbed my hands together under the table, nervously

"Alright, I guess." I muttered, not knowing how else to put it. He raised his eyebrow at me, as if wanting me to elaborate

"What is your GPA?" he asked and was about to answer, but Eleanor beat me to it

"It's actually higher than mine." she chuckled "But not by much." she added with a slight giggle, the shock in her dad's face was very noticible. Her mother seemed to be surpressing a smile

"Is that so?" he asked, I merely nodded "Very impressive." he said before eating his food a Little before continuing to ask me questions "Do you have any plans for college?" he asked, I felt Eleanor stiffen beside me

"No, sir." I answered "I don't."

"Why? if you don't mind me asking." he said and I sighed softly before answering

"I have more important things to think of." I said, he raised his eyebrow at me

"More important than a career?" he chuckled lightly "What could be more important than that?"

"My family." I whispered, I saw Eleanor's mom smile softly as she glanced slightly at her husband's shock-ridden face "I have my sister to think of."

"What about your parents?" he asked and I chuckled slightly

"My father isn't really too much in the picture." I muttered, I felt Eleanor's hand grip mine softly

"And your mother?" he asked, Eleanor's grip on my hand tightened, I sent her a soft smile, which she returned

"Sadly, she passed away." I answered "A year ago." I added, I felt Eleanor's mother's eyes on me, she sent me a sympathetic smile

"I'm sorry to hear that, I apologise." I nodded softly

"Could we be excused, please?"

*****

"That went better than I imagined." Eleanor's soft voice interrupted my thoughts, I sent her a tight smile "I at least iamgined he would throw something at you." she chuckled, but when I said nothing, she turned to me and cocked her head to the side "Are you okay?" she whispered as she cupped my face softly. We were currently on her balcony, under the beautiful night sky, but I just couldn't stop thinking about what her dad had said at dinner.

"Do you see us having a future together?" I muttered, she blinked and then retracted her hands with a frown so she could look at me

"Where is this coming from?" she muttered and I sighed deepy

"Please, just answer the question." I pleaded and she blinked a couple times before shrugging

"Well, yeah..." she whispered "don't you?"

"What do you think it's like?" I said and she nodded with a chuckle

"It's because of what my dad said, right?" she asked, I said nothing "About college." she added and I sighed deeply before running my hands along my face "You think I care if you want to go to college or not?" she hissed since her parents were in the next room "Because I don't!" she exclaimed as she cupped my face again, but I pulled her hands away as I paced along her balcony "Don't you see us together in the future?" she whspered, barely audible; hurt flashing in her eyes "Is that it?" she asked again and I shut my eyes tightly

"I don't know." I whispered and she scoffed

"What do you mean you don't know?" she pressed

"I don't know." I said again "That's just it." I added "The way I live, what I do; I don't think I can put you through that."

"What do you mean? Because you fight?" she asked and I shook my head, shutting my eyes again

"You wouldn't understand." I said and she scoffed

"Then help me understand." she said and I shook my head again

"Tell your parents thanks for the meal." I said as I pressed a quick kiss on her forehead "Goodnight, Angel."
