I heard voices which was making it difficult for me to sleep. So I tried opening my eyes to see what was going on.

My eyelids felt really heavy when I tried opening them. At first, things were blurry, so I blinked to clear my vision.

I saw Gabriel standing not too far from my bed, as he spoke to a stranger.

Why did Gabriel bring in a stranger to my room while I slept? I tried remembering but my head felt really foggy, it took me sometime.

Then I remembered the twins' birthday party and the dizziness that I had felt, followed by...did I faint?

I gasped making the two men look my way. Seeing me awake, the stranger started coming towards me.

I looked at Gabriel worried, and he gave me a blank stare. The stranger started speaking so I turned to him.

"Hi Nicola, I'm Dr Adam Turner. I am Gabriel's family doctor. How are you feeling now?"

"Ok.." I whispered glancing at Gabriel again. "What happened?"

"Well, you fainted." It was the doctor who spoke." I have checked your vitals, your blood pressure seems to be fine. Are you feeling any shortness of breath?" The doctor asked to which I nodded. "Well I have taken your blood sample for some tests. Gabriel told me you were feeling dizzy yesterday." I nodded again." Did you feel dizzy today?"

"Only right before fainting," I replied.

"Well I can only assume at this point, but it could be just stress where your body is telling you that you need a break. Have you experienced any form of anxiety previously?"

I shook my head in reply, and he nodded.

"I have requested to check your blood sugar level so lets see. If you are having low blood sugar, eating or drinking sugary things like juice can make you feel better. But if it continues, you will need to take medication for it.

I will call Gabriel as soon as the results come. For now rest, but change into something less constraining as you are experiencing breathing difficulties." He said giving me a smile, bidding goodbye.

I nodded and gave a smile and watched the doctor and Gabriel walk out of my room.

I tried getting up but felt very dizzy. I lifted myself on my elbow and stayed like that waiting for the dizziness to go.

"What are you doing?" I heard, making me turn, which almost made me loose my balance as the dizziness came in full force.

Gabriel was quick to come and hold me. I groaned keeping my eyes closed.

"What can I do?" He asked, to which a just shook my head and then, feeling a sudden craving, I peeked at him through one eye, "could I have some of the left over birthday cake? Are their any left overs?" I asked hopefully.

He nodded taking out his phone. He called someone, Paula I presume, gave orders and hung up.

We sat in silence. The atmosphere felt really tense. My mind kept wondering to different things, but it kept coming to one thing in particular.

Tomorrow I was supposed to take the twins back with me for our summer vacation together. But now, with me fainting, would he allow his children to go with me.

I gasped, my heart had started beating  really fast with the fear that he wouldn't send them.

I ruined their first summer without Sarah. I am so useless! This is the first time that I would be given full responsibility of them and I blew it. Gabriel had handled been a single dad so smoothly. I mean look at today even. Their birthday was a complete success, at least it was until I ruined it by fainting.
