Sighing while mixing the soup in the pot, I kept glancing between the meal and my phone in hopes that he would call me soon. It was already late and he had promised me that he would take the rest of the night off for our date night. It was why I even let him go out to the casino at all so if he didn't come back in time for dinner then it would all be pointless.

My mood was beginning to sour at the thought of him being roped back into work and leaving me here all alone to eat dinner all to myself. Tonight was supposed to be about us being together and I didn't want to lose that with him, especially after a bit of time where we were both preoccupied with our jobs to properly acknowledge each other. I didn't want that to happen again.

Another sigh racked my body at the bland wallpaper of my phone with no messages still even after I sent him a few of my own. If he didn't at least reply in ten minutes I'd go out to find him. And if he replied back that he was staying at the casino a little longer then I'd go down there anyways and drag him out. He needed a damn break and I needed to give him my attention after too long spent without it. It was a miracle Sigma hadn't experienced a burnout yet with how much he's been doing and how little he's been letting himself indulge in his own pleasures.

"C'mon, love. Give me one night," I muttered to myself as I started to call his cell, becoming a bit nervous that he wasn't even responding. He was usually good about at least getting back to me unless he was hosting a card game and couldn't look at his phone. If that was the case then I was going to kill the bastard for abandoning me on our date night. He'd pay for not showing up when I went through all the trouble of cooking and lighting all these damned candles.

It was then I heard the door of our apartment open before abruptly slamming shut followed by the sound of glass breaking. My heart leaped into my chest with my first instinct telling me it was an intruder. I held the ladle for the soup over my head as a pathetic weapon as I slowly inched towards the door. When I got close enough to peer around the corner, I heard faint crying that sounded heart achingly familiar.

"Sigma, darling?" I whispered in fear, dropping the ladle at the sight of blood trickling along his fingers to the floor where my old vase now lay in broken pieces. He had tears trailing down his face, expression contorted in misery and pain from more than just the cut on his hand. He looked ready to fall apart as I stepped forward to pull him into my arms gently.

"What happened? Are you alright?" I urgently asked, carefully cradling his hand by his wrist. He let out a sob, his head falling on my shoulder in what I could only describe as utter helplessness. It was clear he wasn't in the right mind to discuss what might've been going on right now so I pushed aside my disappointment for our date night and dinner as I slowly shuffled us to the living room where I gently eased him onto the couch.

"Just rest and catch your breath for a bit. I'm going to grab the first aid kit real quick so I can fix up your hand. I'll be right back, darling," I assured him, my chest clenching at the sad way he nodded his head before he curled into himself on the cushions. Turning away from the heart breaking scene, I quickly found the kit without any time wasted away from Sigma.

I sat myself by his side on the couch, retrieving the bandages and disinfectant to patch up his hand gently. In the middle of the process, I gently urged his head to rest in my lap which he eagerly accepted while he cried silently. We kept to our own quiet thoughts until I had finished bandaging up the wound. What I couldn't figure out though was what had caused Sigma to become like this in the first place. He had said that he was only going to pop by the casino.

"I can't handle this stress anymore or I'm going to break," Sigma whispered through his tears. He cuddled closer in my lap, his mournful eyes gazing up at me longingly. I was starting to understand his breakdown. He has been attached to his work for awhile now and it happened to be on a night that he already had stress that made him finally snap after he checked on his casino.

"Oh, love," I sighed, my hand tangling into his hair gently. My fingers carefully combed through his soft locks to soothe him in any way I could. Sigma flashed me a pain filled smile before his eyes began to droop. Date night would have to be rescheduled as I massaged Sigma's scalp with him quickly falling asleep. It was well worth it though to see his peaceful face on my lap, all stress wiped off his expression.

"Sleep well, darling," I whispered, knowing he probably didn't hear me. His soft snores confirmed my theory, a small smile twitching onto my lips. I was starting to become drowsy myself just from feeling Sigma's deep breathing against my lap and the feel of his soft hair in my hand. Making myself comfortable, I decided to indulge and pass out on the couch without worrying about the dinner that wasn't eaten or the glass still remaining on the floor. Everything else melted away with only Sigma and me remaining.
