Madness, madness is the affliction they say
I have and am cursed with, but how can I be mad?
Mad, madness in anger, madness in sanity, Insanity
What does it matter? What does it matter, for there
Is not, could not be a word that comes of out my mouth
You shall believe.

They call me mad for my escape, call me as wicked as I
Am bewitching, the Lilith of our time, better to be seen
Not heard, for who would want to hear a mad woman?
But they don't know my secrets, they don't know what
I've heard, they don't know what I've bared witness to
Or who.

They don't know who I married, not as well as I-
They don't know about these accusations, these oh so
Dreadful accusations, the words tossed so carelessly
In my direction, while he lovingly caresses me,
A lie, a mad, mad lie, but no one will see!
They will.

They will see what I see, they will admit this is a ruse-
They will admit how they have hidden her, how they
Accuse me of being mad so they don't have to reveal
What happened to her, how my husband took her
Away, along with what bit of reasoning I had, for what
Is a mother without her child?

They lie to me, they call me mad, sane I am afflicted with
A curse of the mind, that makes me believe, but if I don't
Believe, then what will I have?
What will I have if I don't believe they can return to me?
What will I have if they don't realise she's here, he's wretched,
What will I have if I have nothing?

If both their coffins are truly theirs?

But they can't be, they won't be, I refuse-
I hold her sweetly in my arms, his arms holding me from behind,
Both of them are with me, because they never left.

So don't look at me like that, because we both know
Your words to me, "If I told you, you'd go mad."
Are the truth.

Because I need them here with me,
Or else I'll truly lose my sanity.
