A/N: "i hope you bulletproof for this bout to hurt"
POV HAWKS
To put it simply, the Todoroki family is like a corrupt royal family. After our mini-argument and my tiny tantrum on the side of the road, I fell asleep and wasn't able to ask Dabi to prepare me for what, exactly, we were about to face.
To start, their house is at least thirty times the size of my pathetic one-bedroom apartment with four bathrooms, seven rooms, and three floors (not including the basement). Dabi and I walk hand-in-hand down a stone-brick path and it takes almost five minutes to get to the house itself. Dabi says I could've parked up by the garage and skipped this walk of shame to the front door, but I couldn't miss the up-close view of all the flowers and the fresh green grass.
"They look real, don't they?" Dabi scoffs, unimpressed.
My eyes widen with shock as I whip my head in his direction. "Are they not?!"
"Fuck no," Dabi laughs. "My old man may be rich, but he's as cheap as they come. He'd rather die than pay for new flowers every season, plus gardeners to take care of 'em."
I stay quiet after that. I don't know enough about Dabi's dad to make a comment, and by the sounds of it, not knowing him seems to be a good thing. Still, I'm determined to make a good impression. If I'm gonna be with Dabi for the rest of my life, then being on terms with his family is a given. At least that's what Google told me.
When we reach the door, Dabi reaches for the doorknob and pushes the door open. I stare at the lavish doorbell, upset that I didn't get to ring it, but my attention is quickly taken by the cavernous foyer. Up until this very moment, I've seen a chandelier in person, so naturally, I stop in the middle of the marble-tiled floor to stare up at it like an absolute idiot.
"C'mon," Dabi grumbles, taking my hand. "I gotta find my mom before the old man does."
I nod, doing my best to keep up with Dabi's fast pace. I'm glad he doesn't let go of my hand, though I have a feeling it's more for him than it is for me.
In the dining room, the tiles and counters are so shiny that I can see my reflection in them. The rooms are dimly lit, and the color scheme is all grey and ivory as if all the color was sucked out with a straw. Still, it's pretty. Less home-y than I expected, but I've never lived in a house with framed photos of a happy family, so I can't critique much.
There are four people in the dining room and adjacent living room, but Dabi only addresses one of them, the woman with white hair, flecked with red. I follow closely behind him, feeling extremely out of place. I'm scared I'll accidentally break something and have to pay it back Ouran High School Host Club style.
"You made it!" the woman exclaims, putting down her iced coffee. "Oh my gosh, I feel like it's been forever! How are you doing? Oh, is this the boyfriend you said you were bringing–"
"Cut the shit, Fuyumi," Dabi scoffs. "We all know I'm only here to babysit Rei. Is she here yet?"
Fuyumi frowns. "Not yet. Rumi isn't here yet, either."
"And the old man?" Dabi presses.
"Running a quick errand," Fuyumi answers. "It's good to see you again, Touya."
Dabi looks away, embarrassed. He doesn't meet my curious and worried gaze and instead heads to the guest bathroom by the front door. "Be right back," he mutters. I watch him go, wondering if he knows this is the first time I've heard his real name.
"Sorry about him," Fuyumi says to me, awkwardly adjusting her glasses. "He gets pretty agitated being back here. We all do, actually. I don't know what I was thinking, inviting him... I mean, he's our older brother and I love him to death, but we all know he hates it here. Ah, I'm Fuyumi, by the way. Second oldest. I work at the local district Elementary school."
