Part 22

A few days have passed since that day... I still couldn't be able to erase his crying face while begging me from my mind...
I wondered what he'd think of me now that I had confessed to him...
Back then, he was pretty shocked and didn't have any specific reaction... He just apologized to me again... was that for a different reason?...

While I was on my way home on the bus from a part-time job interview, Lee Sora called me...
I picked up and said, "Yes, Miss Lee?..."

-"Park Myung, I'd like to talk to you... can we meet?..."

+"I'm afraid not... I'm a bit busy..."

-"Look, I don't know what happened between you two, but can you come back?... "

+"I thought you hated me. Shouldn't you be happy now that I'm gone?..."

-"Truthfully, yes, I don't like you... but Haru is so close to losing his mind... he keeps getting drunk and sobbing while calling your name... he doesn't come to work regularly. Even when the times he's at work, his mind is somewhere else... He even keeps blaming me for being harsh on you..."

-"because he's the most critical key in our business, but because of you, we got into problems... He simply doesn't care anymore if the whole business falls apart... "

+"He'll be okay... I'm not that important to him anyway... you don't have to worry... if you don't have anything to say, then bye..."

-"Hey!...wait..."

I hung up on her then...
In conclusion, she was worried about her money and that was why she suddenly reached out to me...
She didn't even apologize and got straight to the point...
These people seriously make me speechless...
They expect me to do whatever they want as if I'm just a pawn...

In the blink of an eye, mid-December has already come... since it was my birthday, Taemin and some of our college friends took me out to dinner to celebrate it...
As we finished dinner, and I blew out the candles on my birthday's cake, my mom called me out of the blue...
When I answered, she told me that my dad suddenly passed out and they're at the hospital... I felt my heart stop, and my legs became weak. I couldn't believe what I was hearing... It was so frustrating for me that I didn't know how to proceed...

As I got up to head out of there ,Taemin said he would drop me off at the hospital...
I was trembling in my fearful thoughts while on our way... When we got there, I thanked Taemin and ran towards the hospital...
Since he was at I.C.U., they didn't let me enter...
I called my mom, and she came out to see me...
My mom told me that they ran some examination and we should wait for the results until morning...
And they only let the guardian stay with him...

So I came back home with my eyes full of tears... the house was incredibly silent and dark as I entered. I could feel the emptiness in the air. I curled up in my bed, feeling the weight of my sorrows...
While I was lying still on my bed, my phone's screen lit up when a notification popped up...
I looked at the text, and it was from Haru saying, "Happy birthday... I miss you... ♡"...
As soon as I saw the message, I cried out loud all night. I was overwhelmed by my mixed emotions, so I just blocked Haru's number. I couldn't have borne with confronting him at that time.

When morning came, I couldn't keep my eyes open with puffiness caused by crying.
I quickly got ready and rushed to the hospital anxiously.
The doctors told us that my dad's heart condition wasn't good and he would have to undergo a coronary bypass surgery.
And the cost would be around 50,000$...

We were devastated by the news. I had no idea how we could afford such an expensive surgery. Since our health insurance only covers 10,000... I needed 40,000... I desperately started to call my acquaintances for 3 or 4 days to see if I could borrow from them, But nobody helped. I didn't even have a job anymore to be able to get a loan or something...
I was hopeless. I hated myself so much that I'm a useless son who can't afford to do anything.
My mom was crying nonstop at the hospital...

One week passed, and the doctor warned me again that he had to do surgery soon because my dad's condition is crucial...
After my talk was over with the doctor, I sat on a seat in the hospital's hallway, thinking what should I do. Then Taemin called me and as I picked up the phone, he said, "Myung, I'm sorry... he's coming there right now~..."...

+"Who do you mean?... what happened?..."

-"Haru... I don't know how, but he found where I'm working... he came and made a big fuss to find you... apparently, he visited your place a few times this week and figured it out that you're not at home... He assumed that you're staying at my place or something... I know you didn't want him to find out, but I had no choice~~... he threatened me..."

+"I'm the one who's sorry... you shouldn't have gotten involved in this... it's my fault... so it's okay... Don't worry about me...I'm so sorry, Taemin"...

Ten minutes later, after the call, I saw Haru was coming from at the end of the hallway...
I was still standing up there... I was too exhausted to think or react to anything...
As soon as he saw me, he ran towards me and hugged me, "I finally found you!... god damn it!... " he said this as he panted...

+"What are you doing here?"...

-"I heard your dad passed out... How is he now?..."

+"He's not well... As you see, I'm busy, so can you leave?... I don't have the time for drama or your plays... "

As I turned around and looked away, he held my wrist and answered, " I heard everything from your friend, Taemin... Myung, let me help you..."
I gritted my teeth out of anger, "I don't want your help... once was enough!..."...

-"Don't be stubborn... I know you're still mad at me but this is about saving your father's life!... I like your parents and always consider them like my parents... I wanna help..."

An uncontrollable rage crawled my skin...
Could I have been more miserable than I am already?...
Why do the worst things always happen to me?...
How much longer should I get humiliated in this life?...
Just how unlucky can a person be?...
I know this bitter truth that I'm not in the place to be picky or cocky...
My father's life is more significant than my pride, my heart, or even my life... I will do whatever it takes to save him. I don't care what it costs me, I should make whatever sacrifices I need to...

As I was standing there, sinking in my own thoughts, he again said," Myung, would you let me help?..."
I sighed and answered with a cold face, "What do you want instead?... I know you won't do it just without expecting me to do something... "
He looked a bit hurt by my question,"Just forgive me and stay by my side... for now all you have to do is ask me to help you... "...

I've got nothing to lose anymore, so I don't care...
Screw my emotions... whatever I want... or all the time that I get humiliated...
Screw it all up...
As long as my dad is going to be okay...
