I stared at myself in the broken mirror of the hotel I was staying in, covered in blood. My hand was constantly trembling as I tried to wash it off. Leaning forward, hands pressed down on the sink, my lips curled into a look of frustration. Glancing in the mirror, DK's reflection was there; she had a look of pity, regret, maybe something more, but it was hard to tell. At first, she remained silent, struggling to find the words.
I spoke up instead, the blood not coming off. "We killed them... We fucking killed them."
DK remained silent just out of my line of sight; her presence was made known. Gripping the sink tightly, I punched the mirror over and over, screaming. DK panicked, holding my arm and stopping me from injuring myself anymore. "Stop it... Beating yourself up like that won't help you or the situation."
I didn't fight back. DK was still holding my arm as she lowered it, looking away ashamed. "We fucking killed them, good people, innocent people, people who were going to help us, take us in."
DK's grip on my arm intensified as she cursed under her breath. "They were using you; they were going ruin your life. I couldn't let that happen!"
"You didn't know that, you didn't know that," I whisper, feeling more devastated. "You just don't want me to be happy, isn't it? For once in your life, you're scared I didn't need you."
"W-What?! N-N... No, that's not it!" DK said, stuttering over her words. Her grip on my arm finally loosened as she looked away, her voice echoing out into nothing but a faint mumble. I didn't want you... Forgetting me..."
A deadly silence echoed between us, and neither of us was sure where to take the conversation from here. It would have to be left to me to carry it on. "I love you, DK. I do."
"Y-You... You do?" she echoed, looking up at me stunned; she shook her head, dazed. "You really mean it. You're not just-. Y'know..."
As my arm moved from her grip, I still couldn't face her. Instead, I held her hand and squeezed it tight. "I do."
"I don't believe you. You're just saying that to make me feel better; you don't love me."
I squeezed her hand tighter, just repeating myself: "I love you, DK. I'll keep saying it as many times as needed until one day, you believe me. And when you do, I'll keep saying it as a reminder. You chose to protect me, to care for me, and to be there for me. And I'll be there for the same. But... We need to set some boundaries. Some set rules to prevent well..."
My eyes finally left the mirror as I caught the red hue of the outside, the echoed in and forced blood moon. "You're not that Cursed Spirit you were feared to believe. You are not the Blood Empress or Bloody Mary. You're just DK, my DK. And that's all you need to be."
"I understand... I want nothing more than to be with you, Y/N." She whispered, placing her other hand over mine, still looking at the ground. "That's my one wish, one I never want broken."
"Then... Let's make a deal, a pact here and now—no more maiming and killing when you feel like it. We don't put innocent people at risk; we don't kill just because we're angry. We only take down people who mean harm to us or others. And only when I tell you so, this is my body. Hence, you will need permission to take control."
"I understand... But wha-."
"DK," I whisper, placing my bloody cut hand on top; it hadn't healed, and DK wasn't able to as I blocked her technique from reaching my wound. "Trust me, like I trust you to do the right thing."
DK continued to look at my hand, curious why she couldn't heal it. Her focus stayed entirely on the fresh and plunging cut. "I trust you with everything; I will always trust you."
