Compared to Japan, Europe is almost entirely free from Cursed Spirits today. The same couldn't be said 500 years ago. Due to constant invasions and collisions, wars and uprisings, and most recently, the Black Death spread across Europe, so too did an abundance of Cursed Spirits. The Vatican had overrun Europe, and the rest of the world cut itself off from the dying continent. America cut all ties with its former allies, and Asia offered no help. With millions of Cursed Spirits plaguing the land, the Vatican, from the strict orders of the Pope, banded the countries together and enacted a ninth Crusade—their goal was to eradicate all Cursed Spirits from the world. Together, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Russia offered their greatest Sorcerers to enact this new Crusade, with the Kronos Family being chosen from the United Kingdom.

The Six Families formed a new council under the name Babalon. They etched their new alliance in the Mediterranean Sea, building a giant tower, Babalon's Tower, as a base of operation for the Crusade. The start went horribly wrong, with Portugal and France losing their Sorcerer Family right away; with just England, Spain, Italy, and Russia remaining, they fought back against the rising masses of Cursed Spirits who had brought entire countries to their knees. When all seemed to start going in favour of the Babalon Council, a Cursed Spirit, one born from hate, revenge and blood, emerged.

This terrible Cursed Spirit tore the Spanish and Russian families apart in weeks, leaving just England and Italy. With the whole world on its knees to this Blood Empress, the Kronos Family stepped in with a solution. A Special Grade Cursed Object. A box of Secrets.

With this box at hand, the Kronos Family sealed away Bloody Mary and every Cursed Spirit they could come across. Millions of the feared monsters that had swept across Europe had been cleansed and sealed. The exact amount is never known, but over the 500 years, it was in use to be well into the hundreds of millions. With the Ninth Crusade a success, the Council of Babalon was disbanded, and the Vatican took charge of keeping the peace and Cursed Spirit population down with the Kronos Family as the head of all operations. They had become the most powerful family in the world of Jujutsu Sorcerers.

But the head of the family at the time, Cyneric Kronos, had his plot in the works. He had seen the destruction and chaos the Ninth Crusade had caused, and the sole cause of it all was Humanity. We had created the Cursed Spirits out of our fear, hate and greed. No matter how much we fought against the neverending Curses, it would never end, not without change, not without a significant restart of Humanity.

So, 100 years after Bloody Mary's arrival, the Kronos Family saught together a plan, one that would be hundreds of years in the making. They passed down the knowledge, wealth, and secrets to each generation, waiting for the perfect host, the one in a million, to be able to act out their plan. They would use the box of secrets, the one that saved Humanity, to destroy it.

No more Humans, no more Cursed Spirits. They would then pave the way and create a new world, one without negative emotions, one without weakness, fear or hatred. One in their very vision.

This box? This Special Grade Cursed Object had a name, one burned into legend, one that brought fear into all that heard it.
