7- Swimming Lesson

After their talk about school, maryanne was feeling abit down. She didn't like the idea at all but didn't have much of a choice

"What do you wanna do today?" Mickey asked and she shrugged

"Don't feel like talking?" She shrugged again

"Am I getting the silent treatment?" This time, maryanne nodded making mickey sigh

"I'm sorry babe. I know its not the best thing in the world. But you haven't even tried it. Now come on, let's do something with the day. You won't have all this free time when you're at school so make the most of it. What do you wanna do?" Mickey asked

"Can you teach me how to swim?" She asked looking up at mickey

"You can't swim? Fuck ye ill teach you how to swim. You got a bathing suit blondie?" Maryanne shakes her head so mickey picks her up

"Ian, move your ass, we're going shopping" he yells through the apartment

Soon, they were in a shop buying a bathing suit and a rubber ring

"Which one do you want?" Ian asked

"Barbie pretty please" she begged and ian laughed, getting the barbie swim suit. They got her some goggles so she could put her face in the water and a rubber ring which had unicorns on it

They went to pay and the woman at the til raised started speaking to Ian and mickey

"She your daughter?"

"Ye she is" Ian answered

"You shouldn't let her buy this stuff. Barbie isn't good for a girls body image. You want her to hate herself?" The girl asks

"But I like barbie" maryanne says sadly

"And you keep like barbie. She wants barbie, let her have barbie. None of your fucking business anyway" mickey says

"Oh honey, I know you think you like barbie, but look at her. Do you look as pretty as her? No. You don't. Because she isn't real. You need to find a pretty realistic girl to relate to"

"OK that's enough. If you won't help us pay, then we'll just take it" Ian says as mickey lifts maryanne up and they go, basically stealing all the stuff

"She was a bitch" maryanne says

"Ye she was"

"Hey. No swearing" Ian scolds. Last thing they needed as gay men fostering was for some homophobic teacher to hear her cuss and call social services on their asses

"What's wrong with barbie?" She asks on the walk back to the apartment

"Nothing. Barbies great" mickey answers

"How long does it take to learn how to swim?"

"I don't know. Not long. Spose we'll find out soon" Ian answers putting his arm around mickey who was carrying maryanne.

They got back and ian coated maryanne in suncream, worrying she'll burn. He put her bathing suit on her and blew up her rubber ring

"You're worrying" mickey said

"I don't want her to burn" Ian replied as he put more suncream on her face

"She's in a pool. Can't burn in water" Ian looked at mickey and decided at that moment, he couldn't even be bothered to further that conversation

"Me and mickey have to get dressed. You go put some cartoons on for abit" Ian said so she went to do that. Mickey and ian got undressed and immediately ran towards one another kissing and touching eachothers bodies
