I heard Avner scream close and I bolted up. He stepped mournfully through the door a few seconds later dragging Atticus. Ariza rushed to her brothers side and took him to his bed.

"What happened?"

"Elery and Ivy."

"What about them?" I knew when Avner didn't talk much something was wrong.

"They fell. Into the floor. It opened up and they plummeted. And then it sealed."

"So they're gone?"

"Gone." He nodded.

I knew we had to save them. But I didn't know how.

Elery
I looked at the strange man. Vinagon was tall, his long black hair and goatee shimmering in the light. Ivy and I had a silent conversation while we followed.

What are we going to do?

I don't know?! You're the one who slayed the Sphinx. You figure it out.

But he's weird!

You think I don't know that! But we have to get back to the surface.

"Okay ladies," Ivy and I jumped at his voice "here we are."

He pointed to a thick red curtain with light escaping underneath. I watched as Ivy slowly slid it back. In the room there were countless shelves all stocked with glass vials, labeled with names. They contained a thick liquid. It was blood. The blood of millions.

"What are those..." I mumbled softly.

"These are vials of blood." Ivy shuttered at his response.

"Why?"

"Promises. People never keep their promises. I worked out in the real world for a long time until they commissioned me here. When a promise is broken, out in the mansion, I find people and take their blood. Not all of it, but many lies are told and that leads up to your demise."

"You found us..." I whispered.

"Yes. I did."

His face turned a wicked yellow in the dim light.
