Atlas POV

The classroom buzzed with excitement as we waited for our teacher, Mr. Grey, to begin the day's lesson. I sat in my usual spot, near the front, trying to focus on the textbook in front of me. But my mind was preoccupied with thoughts of the upcoming football game and the college scouts who would be attending. The pressure was mounting, and every moment counted.

Just as I was about to lose myself in daydreams of touchdowns and victory, the classroom door swung open, and Mr. Grey strode in, his briefcase in hand. He was a tall, middle-aged man with salt-and-pepper hair, known for his no-nonsense approach to teaching.

"Good morning, class," Mr. Grey greeted us, his voice commanding attention. "I have an announcement to make."

The room fell into an expectant hush. We all knew that when Mr. Grey had something to say, it was usually important. My curiosity piqued, and I focused my attention on him, momentarily forgetting about the upcoming game.

"As part of our Family Studies curriculum, we will be embarking on the baby project," Mr. Grey announced, his eyes scanning the room. "Each of you will be paired with a classmate to parent a lifelike baby doll for the next two weeks."

Groans and murmurs erupted throughout the room. The baby project had a notorious reputation in our school, dreaded by students for years. I glanced around, seeing the mix of annoyance, anxiety, and curiosity reflected on my classmates' faces. It seemed like nobody was excited about this project.

My mind raced, trying to process the implications of this assignment. I was the captain of the football team, with a busy schedule filled with practices, games, and studying. How was I going to balance all of that with taking care of a fake baby? This couldn't have come at a worse time.

"Partnerships will be randomly assigned," Mr. Grey continued, and I felt a knot form in my stomach. The thought of being paired with someone who wouldn't take this seriously or simply wouldn't understand my commitments made me uneasy.

Mr. Grey reached into his briefcase and pulled out a stack of papers. "I have the partner assignments here," he said, his eyes scanning the room once again. "When I call your name, please come up and collect your assignment."

As Mr. Grey began calling out names, my heart started pounding louder with each passing moment. I watched as students shuffled nervously to the front of the class, receiving their partner assignments. The tension in the room grew thicker with every name called.

"And last but not least, Atlas Rogers and Trevor Silva," Mr. Grey announced, and my heart sank.

I couldn't believe my ears. Trevor Silva? Out of all the people in the class, I had been paired with the campus bad boy, the epitome of rebellion. This was going to be a disaster. Trevor and I had never gotten along, and I doubted we ever would.

Reluctantly, I made my way to the front of the class, feeling the eyes of my classmates on me. I glanced at Trevor, who stood there with a smirk on his face, clearly finding this whole situation amusing.

Mr. Grey handed me a slip of paper with our assignment details. "You and Trevor will be partners for the baby project," he said, his voice filled with a mix of authority and expectation.

I took the paper, my hand trembling slightly. As I returned to my seat, I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread that had settled deep within me. How on earth were Trevor and I going to survive this project together? Little did I know that this assignment would change.
