Hi, everyone! In this work, Jason is going to be slightly older than Percy, but only by, like, a couple months. Percabeth never happened, they are just really close friends. Jasper also never happened. Jason and Percy are in 9th grade (They are 14 years old) so assume that every character, I bring up is in the same age and grade  as them unless I say otherwise. This is my first-ever work on wattpad, so enjoy! And, please tell me if it's good or not, and I'm always open for tips.

(Updates might take a while, since I'm typing on an iPad, but who knows, I might do it quickly)

Tw: Mentions of child abuse, I put astriks around the paragraph if you want to skip it

Percy's POV

Percy was running down the hallway with how fast he was going. As he ran/speed walked by, people gave him funny looks, but he didn't care. He was already 7 minutes late!

Percy checked his watch. 8 minutes late. At this point, Percy broke into a full-on run, not caring if he got caught. Since it was after school, there were fewer teachers around, so that increased his chances of not getting caught.

Finally, Percy burst through the door in room 501, where the chess club had planned to meet. As he ran through, panting, all the chess club members turned their startled eyes to him. Percy raised a hand, trying to jester that he was catching his breath. All the chess kids slowly turned their eyes away, except one.

"Percy, my man!" Leo exclaimed, standing up to greet him. Leo was an average-height boy, with dark brown curly hair that usually sat in a mop on the top of his head. (My apologies if I describe any of the characters wrong I'm going off what I imagine them as and the fan art) He usually wore jeans and a plain shirt, but today he had a shirt on that said 'WARNING: make sure to avoid if you don't like TACOS' Honestly, Percy wasn't surprised. Leo had had this weird thing going for tacos ever since second grade when the school cafeteria had served spicy tacos one day.

Leo thought they were so delicious, that he climbed up on the school stage, holding a taco above his head, and then yelled at the other watching students: 'THIS IS GOD!'

That had gotten him a visit to the principal, but ever since that day Leo never ceased loving tacos.

"Hey, Leo," Percy responded, nodding his head.

"Just came from swimming practice?" Leo gestured to Percy's wet hair.

"Yeah. I just ran the whole way here."

"Well, at least you're here now, captain. Take a seat."

Percy sat down, trying to decide what he was going to say. The only reason that he was captain of the chess team was because he was the best on the team. He was usually a couple of minutes late to chess practice because of his swim practice before. Finally, Percy knew what he could say to the team.

Percy stood up, traveling to the front of the room and dragging a chair with him. He positioned the chair under a desk at the front of the room and then climbed on top of the desk so he could face his teammates and be taller than them.

"Guys!" Percy called, gesturing for attention and silence. Slowly everyone went quiet and focused on him. "It's Monday right now, and we go to regionals on Friday. This week is Hell Week, so prepare yourself in any way you can. Okay, wait, I take that back, you don't need to prepare physically unless your finger isn't strong enough to move the chess piece, but I don't think anyone here has that problem."

"Percy?" His friend, Annabeth, called from the back of the room. "Do you know who we are going against?"

"No," he replied sadly "the chess people want to keep it secret until we are there. So for now, just assume every team we've ever been against is going to be there unless we are told otherwise."

Annabeth nodded, satisfied with that answer.

"Any more questions?" Percy asked the crowd. "Okay! Meeting dismissed, good talk, guys!"

*****************time skip to the end of chess practice****************************************

As Percy packed up his bag and other stuff, Leo approached him with a red envelope held out to him.

"Here," He Leo said "Birthday invite. I understand if you can't come because it's-."

Percy silenced him with a finger to his lips. "I don't care what day it's on, I'll be there."

Leo smiled. "Thanks. Also, I'm inviting a couple of new friends so... be prepared!"

"I will be." Percy said solemnly "Thanks, Leo. See you soon."

"Yeah, see ya!"

*******************time skip to Percy driving to his house***********************************

*Percy pulled up into his new house's driveway. Percy loved his new house. Ever since Gabe went to jail for child abuse against Percy, Percy's life had been getting better. They moved into a new house, and his mother's boyfriend, Paul Blofis, was nice.*

Percy got out of his car and locked it. (OMG... I just realized Percy is 14... okay, in this fic the driving age is 14.) He unlocked the front door and stepped inside. He wasn't surprised to see his mom and Paul making out on the couch. Since his mom had never had the chance to date in her teenage years, plus she never did that kind of stuff with Gabe, she seemed very inclined to do it with Paul.

Percy hung his keys on the wrack by the door and headed upstairs, but not before heating a breakfast burrito for himself. Once he got into his room, he scanned his walls for no reason. They were sea green, like his eyes. His bed was tucked into a corner, along with a nightstand. He had a walk-in closet, and his desk was against the opposite wall to his bed.

Suddenly, it occurred to him that he should open Leo's party invite to see when it was, so he could put it on the calendar. Percy opened it, then gasped. The party was today, at 7:15 pm! He checked the time. It was 6:45.

"Shit!" Percy cussed to himself. He quickly got changed into a green polo shirt and blue jeans. He packed another shirt into a bag. The things they had done at the last of Leo's parties still haunted him, especially what happened to his shirt. After he was done changing, he shuffled around in his closet for a bit, looking for the gift he had gotten Leo.

He had known Leo's birthday was coming up, so Percy had bought something for Leo in advance.

Good job, me! Percy silently praised himself. Finally, Leo pulled out the large gift. It was the size of half of Percy's bed. At least it was wrapped.

Percy slid it downstairs. "Mom! I'll be back later today or tomorrow, and if I'm not back tomorrow morning I'll be here after school!" His mom gave him a thumbs up, not breaking the kiss with Paul.

After Percy had loaded Leo's gift into his trunk, he got in and drove there.

When Percy arrived, he had to haul the gift up the driveway, and Leo's driveway had the biggest incline a driveway could have, so by the time he reached the top, he was panting and sweating.

He reached forward and rang the doorbell.
